Also quite remarkable how Pakistan have fought back all series after being down and out, even I gave up on them after edgebaston and I generally believed pakistan were quite different from old pakistani teams and look under arthur and misbah they won't lose without a fight.

in terms of a series been like pakistani punch first, england respond and punch back, pakistan punch again, england counter attack and look like they have pakistan in the ropes and then pakistan punch back again.
would be brilliant if it had a fifth test.

a 2-2 would be a fair result in this series considering england haven't played well enough to win the series and really pakistan haven't been dominant enough to win the series either,

wonder when ICC will take action on the overrates.

A very clear cut situation where a player had very publicly criticising a decision and deserving of a fine. The ICC have a history of coming down on players' comments on Twitter. Very silly from Broad who is supposed to be a senior figure in the England side.

As far as over rates go, the ICC need to come up with a transparent, real time formula for how many overs are due before the end of the day. Until they do that, then there isn't going to be a great deal of progress.

agree on that or they could just be more strict than allow teams off lightly on the matter.
might have to get calculators, loads of footage and a backlog of all the icc media press releases but I am pretty sure 3-5 yrs if you were 3-4 overs short you essentially were guaranteed a fine/ban was a period of about 18 months where loads of captain missed games for over rates or got fined, think bumble mentioned at the time overrates were the number 1 priority in the ICC umpires meetings.
it was near the time when Sri lanka captain changed captain so a player doesn't miss a final for a t20 world cup, believe in that competition most captain were under threat for a ban and in this series it self cook under a possible suspension which funny enough expires two week later and record gets wiped clean.
looked like they stopped doing it now with 6-7 overs being short being common, WI have been crazy slow in St lucia and both teams been slow all tour this summer.

shouldn't be too hard for ICC to come up with a transparent formula and their could even use the 30 mins as a leeway for DRS and other stoppages.

For me it's a chicken and egg situation when it comes to over rates. The only thing that will improve the situation is much harsher penalties for both bowlers and Captains, I'd even be open to each day in an individual test counting as a fine and two days being a ban for the next match providing a robust system was come up with.

To start with, why not have a minimum number of overs per session instead of for the whole day? It's far easier to keep track of things in two hour blocks rather than for a 6 hour day. But to make that work there needs to be a much better system where as soon as a DRS referral or incident has happened the number needed is automatically adjusted so everyone knows what needs to happen.

Not a bad idea could easily work since it won't be hard to work out the average time taken to finish an over and then use the time wasted in Drs to adjust the overs and since it is small chunks the over rates would be most likely be a few overs short so the teams could easily rush them in to get all the overs in hard to do in 6 hours or 90 over days.
Might be wrong but county cricket got a good system in t20 about the clock and the run penalties and they push time back which is calculated to take into account stoppages and by all reports it is fair and transparent.

Probably harder to work on then technique.

Yup

It's why Id be surprised if he ever had any success

Just like Rohit sharma he lacks the mental toughness to succeed in test match cricket

and weirdly they also suffer from a similar technical flaw which is quite ironic.
wonder if Vince will make his Technical fault worse by becoming a better one day player.

do agree with Sussex that is quite baffling how a small technical fault with these players cause huge issues yet a big technical fault in Kohli, Cook, Ballance etc doesn't effect them that much.
Even Dhawan a better Test player than Rohit Sharma and possibly Vince that saying something since I don't really rate Dhawan much.

Really? Ballance in the same sentence as Kohli and Cook? How is he much different to Vince? This is the 3rd Test series in a row that he has failed against a good attack and is averaging 29 in this series with one fifty. (Now that I've said this, he'll probably score a fifty today but the point stands).

Still averages more than Vince and rohit Sharma and really is the best batsman to illustrate the point that having a way lesser technique can mean you can score way more run that someone with a way better technique.

Going through the newspapers I came across one Journalist writing that Cook voted Brexit in the recent referendum. This follows on from the story a few years back that Strauss was considering standing for Parliament as a Conservative candidate. Amusing that England's best opening pair who batted left handed are on the the right in politics.

I think most of us would want our opening batsman to remain rather than exit.

Swear down all the people saying if Rashid played he wouldn't do any better than Ali are missing the fact Rashid was bowling better in england this summer than last winter and then add in the fact Rashid only played 3 test so way too early to call him better or worse than ali from that sample. Even the great Warne was average and crap in his first 3 test.

Then add in the fact england touring india this winter and it is plain stupidity Rashid didn't play this summer.

Ballance chases a widish ball and England's chances diminish rapidly.
