Ballance is always going to risk losing his wicket early. Before he finds his touch and starts to get his feet moving a bit more, he is a lame duck with that technique. Most bowlers who are decent and have a little help with conditions should fancy producing at least one chance before he gets to 15.

Bell is a confidence player. I have seen him play spin majestically, I have seen him play it bad. Nothing to do with the techique.

At his very best form he picks the length of spinners incredibly well. Pitch it too short and he rocks back onto his back foot and smashes you about.

Off form he becomes far too tentitive about where his bat goes. Which means he can be weak to the spinning ball, esepcially for catches around the bat as he feathers edges onto pads and such.

Id take an in form Ian Bell in any conditions for this team anyday of the week.

Still averages 36 in Asia.
no denying he is a good player but he underachieved massively for england and would probably fail for England in India.
far better picking a younger person that could actually improve and learn from the india tour experience.

Bell is his own worst enemy. So maybe he would take one look at Ashwin at the other end on a turning deck and talk himself out of the crease.

surely it is better to give an younger player the experiance than relying on a 34 yrs old that struggled internationally for the past 2-3 yrs and only actually played well for 2 yrs in Test.
