Different subject, but it does amuse you when you hear people say Kohli hasnt done much in tests....

12 x 100 in 42 tests...

Mentioned it in the wi game thread for someone averaging 45 he is very consistent only failed in England and against England.
Although he does have a few major weakness that does cause him issues.

I'd forgotten quite how obnoxious Boycott can be.

Had a handful of bad tests to start in Australia, and then scored something ridiculous like 6 hundreds in 5 tests. Played a blinder awya to South Africa too in one of the two tests he has had there.

If he was failing against good pace attacks in other countries outside Asia, you would worry.... but judging on his record in OZ, he could come here next tour and plunder England's bowlers around for fun.

The adage that you do what the opposition least wants you to do, seems to have taken a battering today. Really thought England would have to declare overnight.

Maybe the thinking is once the total becomes so out of reach it isn't even conceivable, then the opposition mentally gives in.

Slightly different kettle of fish when you have Ashwin and Mishra to send down 30+ quality overs rather than having to rely on seamers pounding in over after over. Not to defend Cook's decision, just that there isn't quite parity between the two situations.

Quite vulnerable outside the off stump and anyone moving it across him and he struggles.

Think being 400 runs ahead is quite similar.
Not even that should have declared overnight was no need to bat today for those runs.

Athers and Botham going on about a short leg, considering they've commentated many years whilst Anderson was bowling they should know he rarely wants a short leg and has more than once argued with Cook about it, He prefers a square leg for some reason.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

His struggles have been against lateral movement, which pitches in Australia offer almost none of these days and he seems to enjoy the extra bit of pace

I'd say Australia has the best batting wickets in the world these days

He struggled in england because thd swing exposed his weakness outside the off stump, his average is only 46 despite 12 hundreds because he makes lots of very low scores as well

He strikes me as the sort of person who will relish being captain though and I expect that average to rise quite a bit

And given amother tour or two in england he will have success

With a bowler who pitches it up and looks for swing, Id imagine he prefers the Square leg in for the ball that doesnt swing and therefore drifts in the pads...

If we were playing the west indies not pakistan I'd imagine the follow on would have been enforced

Pakistan have much better batsmen and batsmen that can grind it out for a long time

Tbh it isn't even the opposition was really trying to make the point England or cook mindset is wrong and too defensive.

Captain Steely will be even more entrenched and irritable talking to the media after this game! Wonder who he'll he'll want something done about. Botham maybe.
