Another top performance.

I don't really blame the middle order for their collapse. Alsop and Weatherly used up 34 balls (over 25% of the innings!) batting in key positions of 2 and 3, in scoring a grand total of two boundaries. Everyone else was asked to hit 100 miles an hour from the word go, which is not easy.

Tino Best is not available for Hampshire today following an incident in last night's match at Chelmsford. More squad news to come #T20Blast

Wonder what happened? Describing it as an incident sounds as if it's not injury related.

The subsequent tweet has revealed slightly more, but still quite vauge. It doesn't surprise me though, he plays far too close to the egde in my liking (not least because it riles the opposition up, and before you know it they've hit him for three consecutive boundaries).

Cork has just said on Sky that it's because he chucked the ball at a batsman.

Not that I care that he's missing. He's useless in limited overs cricket. Plus it means he can rest ahead of tomorrow's four day game.

Sounds then like a good decision to leave him out!

Weather as it is it isn't just Tino who won't be playing.

Was at Chelmsford last night, he looked a bit frustrated and took a lob with the ball when it was thrown back to him. Ended up bouncing on the pitch well over the batsmans head and McManus evidently had no idea what was going on causing it to go for 4 overthrows.

Similarly I'd br shocked if Ravi Bopara didn't get disciplined. Got given LBW and screamed 'What!?' audible to the entire crowd followed by some other inaudible stuff right infront of the umpires face with his arms raised. Didn't start to walk until he next batsman had reached the square.

Simon Wilde has tweeted that if Best is found guilty of misconduct, which he surely will be, then Hants will be deducted 2 pts. That seems palpably unfair. Throw the book at Best by all means but pts deductions have ramifications for teams in no way involved in the incident.

Voices from closer to the club are saying that that the 12 month period ended just over a week ago, rather than 2 July as he says.

The frustrating thing is that the reason why the 12 month period was imposed on us in the first place was largely down to the (regular) actions of Matt Coles, ie one single individual, as is the case again here.

If we do get points deducted, and they get deducted this season but only from the t20, then it doesn't materially make any difference. We're 99% out. But if such a deduction were applied, but to next season, they clearly it makes a very big difference.

Either way, I suspect it has cost Best any chance of staying with us next season. He's already caused us to be deducted a number of points through very slow overrates.

Latest talk is that we are still in the 12 month period, on the basis that we appealed the initial decision. That appeal duly delayed the start of the period by a short while, hence this incident has been caught. However an outcome of the appeal was that one offence was extended to two offences.

So if this is the case (and the club are awaiting for the ECB to confirm), then no points will be deducted because this is our first offence. We would just need to avoid a second one occurring over the next week.

Let's hope that is the case. I thought the initial punishment was very harsh.

Yep, I knew there was no reason to get excited by that start.

Didn't realize we were playing yesterday.

Can't keep up with the rapid changing formats.

Nor can the players after yet another capitulation.

We're adrift at the bottom and staying there.

Looking at the weather forecast today, there doesn't appear to be much chance of play today, so we may well get away with a draw.

Yes, just seen a tweet from the ground reporting that there probably won't be any play at all.

Can't take too much joy from the rain saving us. But hey, we've closed the gap on Surrey.

With Dawson on England duty for our next four day game (if you can call carrying the drinks for one evening of t20 as "on duty") along with Vince, Wheater will surely be recalled. And whilst it would leave us with no proper spinner, surely a trip to the Riverside demands Tommo for Crane.

Papers are linking us to Varun Chopra.
