Declaring with only 629 runs on the board. What the hell was he thinking?

Only two results possible now. Who'd have thought that when we declared.

I wish I'd been brave enough to go to the bookies when Van Zyl was run out. Don't know what the odds on a SA win were but they must have been good.

Problem now is if the scoring rate drops. Root could have taken the KP route.

But there's no logical reason why this shouldn't be a tame draw....

well one more wicket and stokes, bairstow, moeen and broad arent exactly known for their solid defensive techniques

Bairstow averages over 100 v SA, Stokes just under.... That'll do.

All he had to do was block all day and let his partner score runs. The spinner wasn't looking dangerous.

He was driving out in front of his pad, didn't turn his wrists and looped a catch to short mid on. The ball didn't turn or hold up in the pitch, not obviously anyway.

England batsmen seem to have a habit of clipping the ball in the air to midwicket off the spinner. It happened a couple of times today before Compton fell.

I thought Root played down the wrong line as opposed to ball movement - but good ball and a bit of both perhaps.

England encountering some local difficulty......
