ECB come up with the logic that Aaron Finch is ineligible to play in the Royal London One Day Cup because he didn't play in the group stages, yet allow Adam Lyth and Bairstow to play against Essex despite not playing in the group stage themselves

Durham fell foul of that rule last year ; rule obviously designed to prevent counties from signing replacements solely for the latter stages of the tournament. Yorkshire have fell foul of the letter of the law rather than the spirit of the law. According to Yorkshire sources on Sky Finch broke his foot against Durham so is unavailable anyway.

If it was an administrative thing from Yorkshire's end by not nominating Finch as an overseas player for the campaign due to injury, then fair enough. Though Aaron Finch is officially the main overseas player, with Kane Williamson as end of season cover and Glenn Maxwell playing in the T20 Blast.

I'd given it up as an inevitable Surrey win but well done to to Coles who made a game of it. I wonder how many went home early and missed that.

The RL50 campaign was well underway before Finch was injured and knowing Maxwell was unavailable for the final stages Yorkshire should have played Finch in one of the qualifying games. Maybe they intended to but then he got injuries. Would Finch be picked if he was fit?I think Yorkshire would have a strong case to appeal the ruling if they wished-it clearly isn't meant to apply in these circumstances.
