If Roy gets another series then Willey is by far good enough.

I say stick with all of these lads.

You can't judge on one series...especially one that was unusually aggressive.

Bairstow was an injury replacement, and Billing did have an important - already overlooked it seems - hand to play in this win.

Also could have been a lot different if NZ didn't drop two sitters when Bairstow was on 39 and 56.

Think Morgan and McCullum had a chat, as mates, before the series started and agreed to play it in the proper spirit, no sledging and bad mouthing. Hence everyone enjoyed the games and were appreciative of the efforts of their opponents, and we got some high quality cricket to boot.

Not sure that the next series will be played in quite the same spirit!

How do you solve a problem like Bairstow?

Lets be honest, in his brief test career he seemingly re-wrote the book of technical errors, and was dropped twice in this effort. I dont think he has played himself into the team, Buttler comes back, and Billings deserves a longer run. The only batting slot still open is at the top, but I would stick with Roy still.

Bairstow at first looked in capable of playing short pitched stuff and was dominated by Kemar Roach. Then against Australia, Starc and Johnson around the wicket seemed to open real problems for him when he kept on closing the face on inswinging balls and generally really struggled with his footwork to good length bowling. And then you add what seemed to be a problem with playing spin, after his horror dismissal at Lords to Steve Smith, and I think he was the only England batsman poor enough to get out to Ashton Agar in the first two tests he played despite never looking a threat.

Lots of ways to get him out. If he is coming back, this summer against two quality left handed players who can swing it into him at pace is not the right time for me. He has talent, but he never looked near a finished article last time around.

Pretty much what I was thinking. Obviously good he did well, and he'd expect to be in the picture. It's to early to think of a set batting line up. All these and more can be tried.

But I'd bring in Moeen for Roy, mostly.

The bowling looks a shapeless, amorphous miscellany. Who knows what England' attack is. But that's where England are, and not necessarily a bad thing.
