Any ideas what that could be?

The but the frightening thing is that Willey apparently before hearing as appeasement was offered a pitch liaison officer position.
That would be disastrous!

We may not have heard the last of this . The union are considering the possibilities of an appeal.
"The tribunal ruled that the decision to retire Willey and Sharp was not unlawful discrimination or unfair dismissal. It did accept that they had been treated less favourably because of their age, but said it was justified because the ECB wanted to ensure opportunities for succession planning and appointing new umpires."
"The ECB had also argued that the decision was justified because it wanted to maintain dignity by not having to ultimately dismiss umpires because of a decline in performance at some point in the future. However, the tribunal did not accept that this would have been justified."

Seem to remember Durham doing the same thing exactly a year ago.

Grockles.com are as much in the dark as us. Did Ian Blackwell' s application to join the 1st class umpiring panel succeed? I heard his application was conditional on the tea interval being increased to 30 mins and a fag interval every 10 overs.

Only 30 minutes? I think he'd want at least an hour.
He's on the 1st class reserve list for 2015 so it won't be long I reckon before he makes the full list. There's some old wood on there at present, and Willey/Sharpe's failure to stop compulsory retirement at 65 failed so a few more might be due to drop off.
