No consideration from the ECB on how Yorkshire are supposed to field a side in the County Championship during April. Do they really need to select six players?

That was my thought at the time. What was it they use to say - A strong Yorkshire team means a strong England team?

Maybe they're going to play Ballance at 5 a position he often plays for Yorks, a round peg in a round hole?

Averages just 60 in tests.

Besides Moores clearly stated he saw Ballance as a number 3 batsman in tests. No need to move Ballance down the order for a player whose career is reaching the twilight zone.

Bairstow often bats at 5 for Yorkshire, where Ballance bats at 6.

Be very unfair on any individual to be excluded using that criteria AP.

I know morale is low after the World Cup fiasco & England came a cropper in the first test of the last WI tour but I'd have gone for a more experimental squad here and left out a lot of the first choice players. I'd have rested Root, Anderson & Broad for starters.

Or a strong England (just have to accept that bit) means a weak Yorkshire.

No, not aginst SL and India bowling but decidedly suspect in the WC. Trott must surely be penciled in at three, so unless they rotate players where can he play. Too many choices for this tour means a lot of water carriers or rotation which is rare for England coaches.

I don't think how he played at #3 in ODIs should have any bearing whatsoever on his test place

Buttler
Plunkett
Tredwell
Broad
Anderson.

Bench: Rashid/Wood/Jordan/Bairstow.

But, they are wedded to five bowlers unless somehow Trott and Lyth both play. Or Bairstow is seen as a front line batter again.

nah bairstow will just be there as backup keeper , he is the one choice I have sympathy for hoggy over as I would have thought they could have got a backup keeper elsewhere rather than take someone else from Yorkshire who is unlikely to play barring an injury

Maybe Moores want's rid of Bell so Trott is seen as his replacement. The idea of Trott opening was muted before but it never happened so unless Moores plans another stupid move it wont happen now.

Picking 6 from Yorkshire is really unfair, it only remains to be seen how many sit on the bench and make their selection even more unreasonable.
