Finn was never going to be in. Taylor feels more of an omission. Rashid is a punt. Tredwell is an admission that the warehouse is empty.

Robson missed out on the Lions tour, Arthur, where he failed to make runs on flat pitches. Gus Fraser must have been outvoted. Tredwell is virtually 3rd choice spinner if Moeen is going to join the squad when fit. Difficult to think of an alternative to Tredwell there's such a paucity of spinners. I'm happy with those selections, Taylor perhaps a little unlucky but I think Ballance just shades it.

Monty is an alternative to Tredwell.

Lyth was marginally better but he didn't excel. Monty now carries too much baggage to be considered.

he hasn't looked out of place at #3 in tests has he ?

Tredwell? Well if it was between him and Monty I'd go for Tredwell every time.
