that shouldn't be a catch imo, he was standing outside the boundary and came back into the field of play to make the catch

if those are allowed then there would be nothing stopping a fielder standing outside the ropes and jumping to palm a ball going into the crowd back into the field of play ,

Like Aidan I also went out (there was a beerfest, how could I not go?) and missed the game, so obviously didn't see this catch.

From my understanding, a fielder's feet/foot has to either be touching the ground within the boundary when catching the ball or immediately before. So if he came from out of the ground and trod on the field before catching it, how can there be a problem with that? Otherwise all of those "catch ball and throw it into the air before stepping out of the field before coming back to recatch it" catches that have become oh-so-fashionable of alte would have to be no good.

Apparently you can jump in the air and toss the ball back inside the rope and catch it, but you have to ground your feet inside the rope before completing the catch. Which wasn't the case here, the ball was caught with the fielder's feet off the ground in the motion of jumping back in.

What a game for rules. Even those that play it don't know them.

Fair enough that your feet have to have been within the field of play before (and after) catching the ball.
