I know it was a dead rubber but one thing that game proved is India aren't all that hot chasing big totals outside Asia without a Kohli special and that our bowling is absolute cannon fodder when it doesn't turn. We didn't win a single ODI in 8 games in SA & NZ last winter by the way.

Arthur they didn't even practice much they basically went home after the 4th game. Most players skipped training the next day and didn't really do much training the day before the game apart from eat Nandos and Mcdonalds.
Wouldn't read much into that game whereas the games at perth and Gabba should give an idea how they rank at this world cup.

Just hope your boys aren't generous enough to gift Ashwin a few wickets and play him into our WC XI.

England can be pretty good at home. Admittedly in particular conditions. But if India win so heavily actually in England, surely they have to be big favourites on neutral territory. Anyway, we'll get a pointer Tuesday morning.

You don't have to turn it against England. Just propel it slowly. Yuvraj and Steve Smith have taken wickets against them.

Fair enough about NZ&SA, but I have them as shorter odds than India anyway.

Ashwin is so annoying when he bowl defensive lines in ODI.
He doesn't contain runs or take wickets.
Darters are far more effective bowlers in odi like Jadeja/Axar can take wickets, keep runs down and still look threatening.

Although for some reason the defensive lines works against England since they can't get out of the choke Dhoni and the Spinners generally do against opposition teams.
England don't really take the singles or see off the 10-15 overs of spin and feast on the quick bowlers.

The tactic Dhoni like to imply doesn't really fit with Ashwin style of bowling considering he leaks easy singles, doesn't really look threatening and leak boundaries every 2 overs.

Be interesting to see if the choke tactic works in this world cup didn't really work in SA although they had some quality batsman and didn't work in NZ because of the small boundaries.

Ashwin is also a darter as opposed to a classical offspinner in the Swann mould. Just not a very good one.

There is nothing wrong with Dhoni's defensive tactics with Ashwin. He simply doesn't have the skill to attack as a bowler overseas. There is absolutely no energy in his action. For some reason, he bowls with a shortened back, thus not making full use of his height. He doesn't put any body into his action, just looks to land the ball on the strip on middle & leg and he isn't even good at it.

Yep nothing wrong with dhoni tactics.
Not sure Ashwin is the right man to bowl with those tactics.

saw a good tweet in 2011 out bowled by yuvraj, 2012-13 outbowled by jadeja and in 2014 Axar and jadeja bowled better than him.

England have repeatedly shown themselves incapable of dealing with slow, straight bowling.

Actual spin doesn't seem to be quite as effective against them for some reason.

yep Axar patel can bat so can kumar.

Axar patel can bat he more of a batting all rounder than a bowling all rounder anyway although he a total carbon copy of Jadeja but probably with a better batting technique.
Averages close to 40 in his short domestic career.

Plus him batting at 8 and kumar at 9 is good enough.

Are you really saying Ashwin would strengthen that lower order?
