It'll be interesting if we decide to gamble tomorrow, and drop Alsop for Briggs - just in case we win the toss, and find ourselves bowling last on a turning wicket.

Can't see us ditching Alsop for Terry after just one game. We obviously made the decision before the Kent game to go with Alsop ahead of Terry as Carberry's replacement, so it be wrong to switch that decision after just one game. But Briggs for Alsop would be a total different kettle of fish.

Personally I think we'll stick with the same XI. But I would not be surprised to see Briggs for Alsop.

Thanks for everything Pothas. You'll be missed. My nickname for you was apt and I will never forget it. For the last time, arise Sir Nic.

Games not til Tuesday, Brendy.

Can't see the point in playing Briggs..not with Dawson and Smith in the side. If we were to drop Alsop, I'd rather play Balcombe and have another seam option, but that seams ( no pun intended ) pointless with Slug and Vince in the side.

Doesn't look like there will be any weather issues this week at Cardiff or Chelmsford, so two results likely.

Come on Hampshireeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Big match tomorrow - I'd be surprised if a team failed to gain promotion when they are so many points clear of 3rd place BUT if we bat first & get 250ish or less OR bowl first & Glamorgan get 400+ then nerves will set in & Essex will know immediately that a win without maximum bonus points could be sufficient.

Boycott always says, "Bat first in almost all conditions, if in doubt think about it and then bat anyway!"

Glamorgan XI: Rudolph, Bragg, Donald, Cooke, Allenby, Lloyd, Wallace (c), Wagg, Cosker, Hogan, Bull.

We are unchanged, Alsop at 7, Slug at 5...I'd rather swap them.

Its a supposedly famous quote from WG Grace - When you win the toss you bat. If you are in doubt, think about it, then bat. If you have very big doubts, consult a colleague, then bat.

Perhaps Boycott adapted it! I wonder if he ever bowled first when winning the toss while captain of Yorkshire?

Worcs are 1/1 in the first over.

2 best batsman at the crease now though ( Ali and Mitchell ), need to bat big.

If they've both gone by lunch then it will look like 3 bowling points for Essex although far too early to see how the game'll go.
