As should the time we got thumped by Pakistan in Dubai.

Worcestershire are the only team in both divisions who got maximum bowling points in every game, the Ajmal factor played a big role in that achievement.

At present Yorkshire very much embody what County cricket should be about. Home grown for the most part, sucessful and producing players for the highest level.

that's what people said about Durham, last year.

perhaps one day the penny will drop with other teams (Surrey) who think they have to buy to compete

I've said many times that I respect the way Durham have built their sides, Yorkshire have the advantage of being an excellently run club as well.

What category do Hants fall in ?? Whilst Vince,Daws,Wood and Briggs are homegrown, Adams and Tommo were taken from Uni sides, Wheater,Coles,Carbs and Gatting all came from other Counties, Slug is Zimbabwean and we've used 3 different overseas.

There's probably not that much of a difference-Durham will have used 3 overseas players once Aaron makes his debut-and Lewis gave the impression he will definitely play tomorrow. We would have had more 'imports' playing were it not for the financial constraints because Smith and Thorp would have stayed & we could well have brought back Gidman. Jon Lewis also said at the start of this season he would have liked to have bolstered the squad with some signings.

I also seem to remember we were after James Harris when he left Glamorgan, couldn't understand why at the time and it was a stroke of luck we didn't get him, although he would have fitted in well-a highly promising but injury prone fast bowler!

Durham are in a favourable location as they are not surrounded by other counties hungry for talent and Yorkshire are a big county with a thriving semi professional league system. Other counties in the midlands and south are cheek by jowl with one another all competing for talent.Lancashire also have thriving league system as a feeder for talent.

Adams and Tomlinson are both from Winchester though, so in my book that makes them our own. And with Wheater, well we've tried to give Bates as much game time as possible, but he's just not proven himself up to the job.

As well as Bates, we've also played Griffiths, Alsop, Barber, Taylor and Roberts in the 12 months.

Like a lot of counties I would suspect, we're somewhere in between Yorkshire and Surrey, but much closer to the former than the latter.

Another positive move that's part of Durham' s development plan is sending youngsters to Aussie to play Grade cricket. Colly reckoned it's a higher standard than 2nd XI cricket here and was the making of him.

We have players from Aus come and train at The Ageas Bowl, and then play club cricket elsewhere in Hampshire, Ashton Agar was one of them before his debut last season.

I'm not aware of any of our players going elsewhere though.

Anyway. Well done Yorkshire! It's been a long time.

How many Sussex fans were there at Trent Bridge? There seemed to be several hundred Yorkshire folk in attendance on Friday, mainly in the members area.

I suppose the main difference is Sussex won the 2006 Championship on the final round of matches and possibly became clear that the title would be won after Day 1. In Yorkshire's case it was difficult to pin point when the title would be won with another two rounds of County Cricket to go, along with a lot of fans not being able to take time off at short notice.

For us it is difficult to just pick one player as our squad has so many needs at present. We need a solid opener to partner Horton and get us off to a decent start, we need an experianced 3 or 4 to replace Prince, we need a leaders of the attack to replace Hogg and Chapple, we need a batsman who will churn out 1000 runs every season.

So, Lees, Joyce, Vince, Footit, Shantry.
