In good news for Australia cricket fans (and Arthur Crabtree), Ryan Harris is on the comeback trail - and even has The Ashes in his sights. Should he make it that far, the term herculean would be apt.

A woman joining the ex pros in the C9 commentary box (no doubt set in their ways, oafishly masculine, uncomfortably challenged) has the feeling of a seventies sitcom.

They tried it about 10-15 years back, with an actress, Kate Fitzpatrick. It didn't work - not due to chauvanism, but due to het not knowing enough about cricket. At least this time they have contracted someone who knows cricket inside and out.

I'm also sure that the TV execs will have worded up the buffoons on correct behaviour. Also, as being an ex-Aus captain, I reckon that she is probably able to hold her own.

Good luck to her though, I'm sure that she'll still need it.

One of the commercial channels had a brief experiment with a female football (Aussie Rules) commentator some years back. Didn't lst long, but I didn;y hear too much about her. She has been doing the past couple of years with the ABC radio commentary team. She is fine

Also, there has seemed to be a pattern of females anchoring tournament sports here, of late - most recently the World Cup and the Basketball World Cup/Championship currently on - a savvy, good-looking young woman to wrangle the 2 or 3 subject experts. It works well in the sense that the majority of the blokes like the eye-candy and the few women watching like the fashion and female representation.

India have been using female host for a long time.
Mayanti Langer
Shonali nagrani
Isha Guha
Have all been used in indian television also ITV are using female host for the IPL Coverage.

Isha Guha has even been commentating for the England vs India series and also the Caribbean T20 recently alongside TMS work.

I remember listening to a female Indian commentator a few years ago. I haven't a clue who she was, but she was bloody awful.

TMS had a woman commentator from the Caribbean a few years ago. Donna Symmonds.

Sexist comment ahead: It takes time for new things to be familiar enough not to be jarring. Cricket might work better, but in football, the constant need to be working up to hysteria means that the different vocal pitch of women can sound a bit incongruous. The woman (Alison Mitchell) who commentates on limited overs matches here has that impediment. I think that may be why women have broken through to being a sports studio anchor first.

Who is that West Indian woman who has been around for quite some time? I think that she came out to Aus, guesting on 9, 5 or more years back. I think that she was quite good.

I think I know which person who are talking about it might have been the South African/Zimbabwe or West indies commentator that worked in one of the T20 world cup games.
She was dreadful.

Didn't Clare Connor commentate on the test matches a few years back or did I imagine that?
