So through to the quarters with still a chance of a home tie, but can't say it bothers me whether we do or not.

Very exciting, but also very bizarre.

Sussex won both powerplays without any question. Sussex had more than double our score after those six overs - more than double! And chasing 178, Luke Wright made 116 of them by himself. And yet they lost.

Quite simply, we won the non-powerplay overs. I can't think of one bad over we had with the ball in the those last 14 overs, and with the bat it was only Nash's spell and one over from Liddle that prevented us from having a run-rate of about 11 per over during our last 14 overs.

I did say to my mate as Sussex came out to bat that there was nothing to fear beyond their opening pair. How right I was proved.

As I've just said on the t20 thread, assuming we don't overhaul Surrey (I very much doubt that we will) then we will be playing the runner-up of the north group (the benefit of Glamorgan and Somerset both losing last night is that we avoid Lancs, who have already smashed 200 at least twice in this competition). And that runner-up will be Worcs, Yorks and Notts.

Given that they will have no Ajmal (and presumably no Moeen), it's a very easy decision for me. I want Worcs please. Notts and Yorks are better sides in my book, and unless we win at Chelmsford on Tuesday (which should lead to improved confidence and the opportunity to put our poor form well and truly behind us) then I wouldn't fancy us against either of them based on our recent form.

I always think that NRR is a good indicator of how a team is doing - are you scraping over the line for your wins, or thrashing your opponents (but maybe just with the occasional off day)? Notts and Yorks both have very healthy NRRs. Worcs slightly less so.

completely agree with Brendy , what a bizarre game, didn't look as if we were going to make anywhere near enough runs and then we take 21 off the 19th , then once Slug went for 18 in an over you couldn't see anyway we could win , especially when Sussex showed that spin wasn't a real option on that wicket....................

Daws, Brigger and Smith were superb and just for once Vincey looked like a captain in control.

Best T20 game I've seen for a couple of seasons to be honest.

Yep. Only blot on his record yesterday was giving Ervine that over. Four overs gone, Sussex flying, powerplay still in place. At no point should the answer to that equation ever be "throw the ball to Slug". I could see those 18 runs before Ervine had begun his run up.

But hey, if we have to forgo a third seamer in exchange for having a deep batting line-up, then so be it I guess. I'd much rather see yesterday's XI than last Friday's XI, even though neither were perfect.

After Essex's shock defeat in the T20 to Glos (Howell, Rouse et al) - only their second defeat of the season - let's hope that Hants put up as good a show as Glos tomorrow.
