It's trade week for the BBL as teams frantically work to secure the signatures of players they want on their rosters for the upcoming season. Following the most successful year of the league thus far, teams are working a little harder than usual, especially with talk of Jacques Kallis being available. Signings so far include Callum Ferguson moving to the Renegades and Brad Hodge moving the to Strikers. I've also heard a rumour that Pat Cummins is joining the Thunder with Andrew Tye moving in the opposite direction. Brett Lee looks set to play his last season before joining the commentary team full time. There has been some outlandish speculation in the Oz media about the possibility of both Andrew Flintoff and wait for it... Brian Lara joining the BBL. Haven't heard anything about KP.
Should be a cracker of a season when it gets under way. The Melbourne Stars will still be the strongest team on paper, with the Brisbane Heat not too far behind them. Other than the Renegades and Thunder, each team do have considerable strengths in this format. Some key signings could change that, of course. Living in Melbourne and having seen a fair bit of the Renegades, their problem has been their bowling. Whilst they've had the likes of Murali, Siddle and Pattinson, Murali isn't coming back and Darren Pattinson will be either in the Oz squad or injured. Peter Siddle might be available, which changes things. On the foreign front, they need a front-line bowler and an all-rounder. They could have a crack at Kallis if the Thunder miss out, although my guess is that they will go after Mohammed Hafeez. As for the Stars, I felt that they were lacking when their international players were unavailable and their fringe players were thrust into the action. Having said that, Marcus Stoinis looks like a good prospect, although he remains unsigned, along with Matthew Wade.
