There's supposed to be a rule that prevents teams declaring with the specific intention of denying the opposition the chance to get more bonus points. As far as I know though it's never been enforced-presumably because-unless it was a ludicrous declaration-it's impossible to say for sure why a team declared. There would be all sorts of possible excuses for an earlyish declaration.

Interesting, I was actually thinking about it when I typed it, I wondered if there was a rule, then ruled it out as it'd be impossible to enforce.
