Wheater will play, he didn't play against Glamorgan because he wasn't 100%, im not sure if hes medically cleared to WK, so Bates may keep his spot on that basis, but I wouldn't mind Gatting being ahead of Bates.

If he wasn't physically fit why was he carrying drinks and doing 12th man work? Surely they'd just want to protect and rest him as as much as possible.

It was a hand injury, probably couldn't hold a bat properly.

Can't see Carbs featuring for England on Sunday after last night's great performance by the 11 that played. There must be a strong case for England releasing him for tonight - apart from anything, more white ball match practice must be good for everyone.

Steady rain in Dorset. What chance of play in Hove?

@SussexCCC: We've had no rain whatsoever here at Hove and even had a bit of sun! We're not expecting rain, so make sure you're here to support us!
@SussexCCC: Just hearing that there are delays on the A23 southbound this afternoon so please leave extra time if you're travelling from that direction

Thanks SP & CC for weather reports.

There was play at Taunton yesterday after at least a 2 and a half hour delay due to dreadful weather. Mind you, Trescothick played like a man on a mission as almost single-handed (with some help from a Hants reject, Myburgh) he flayed the Durham bowlers to get a win that's moved Somerset up to equal second.

There's racing at Goodwood today too, add into the fact it's Friday too, the Chichester roundabout will be a bottleneck of Melchizedekian proportions.

Woakes and Bresnan are playing in the Warks-Yorks game...so Carbs SHOULD be available too us.

Presumably the team will be then :

Carberry (Or most likely Gatting if unavailable however they could go for Bates looking at the batting depth)
Vince
Adams
Coles
Shah
Ervine
Smith
Wheater
Wood
Abbott
Briggs

With adjustments to the order depending on the situation. Presumably they would want to get Coles in fairly early so he can just go for it but Smith at 7 and Wheater at 8 seems a bit deep for them.

Coles won't be that high again, not with Wheater in the team

Carbs,Vince,Shah,Adams,Ervine,Wheater,Smith,Coles,Abbott,Wood,Briggs

if Carbs is unavailable, then Adams to open, with Gatting/Bates going in after Smith

I'd personally like to see Coles going in early simply to more or less hopefully pinch hit a bit and get us going well/drop the rate quite a bit seeming how he appears to be in quite good form with the bat at the moment, not sure if they'll go with that or not though. Even if not I would expect Adams to keep his number 3 slot and Shah to slot in at 4 as that's where I believe he's always naturally played in the past.
