Shah has a week to prove his fitness. If he does so, then he has to go straight into the side on Friday - even if England release Carberry back to us.

It could prove to be a masterstroke of a signing, if he shows his old form. Add with Maxwell to still come into the side too....

For me, there shouldn't be any debate over Wood. He starts. Bowling is simply too weak without him.

So if Coles can continue batting like he did vs Glamorgan (I'm not asking for it every game, just enough so that Friday wasn't a one-off), then in my mind it is Adams who makes way. With Coles moving into the top five, and having total license to swing.

I suppose the 1 big benefit he does have is being left-armed and offering something different.

Sometimes erratic, sometimes brilliant.

And the benefit to having him in a team also containing Abbot, Briggs, Dawson, Ervine, Maxwell and Coles is that if he is having one of his off days, then he doesn't need to continue to bowl.

Wood said the other day that he doesn't expect to be back for Friday, but is hopeful that he might be able to make in for Sunday.

In that case, I'm not sure we've got much choice but to play Tomlinson or Balcombe on Friday. Otherwise Ervine, Smith and Vince will have to bowl eight overs between them.

Losing him is a blow, Losing Carbs is a blow, losing them both is just short of a disaster...something happens to Vince or Adams we are screwed.

Oh no, can we get another batsmen to replace Gatting please . I feel more confident when Coles or Abbot come to the crease than when he does. I really hope they give someone from the 2nds a go instead of him. Dawsons a big blow because that means we have to play Briggs in more or less every format from now on weakening the batting considerably. For T20 I'd be tempted to stick Coles in at 3 as to not disrupt the order as much as possible.

Lucky we've signed Shah otherwise we'd be in big trouble. Can Benks make a comeback?

Is my memory playing tricks or did Tommo play for us in T20 out in the Caribbean a few seasons ago and do fairly well (same season we had Myburgh I think)? Assume he's next in line as he got in the squad anyway.

Chances Carberry will be released are next to none I assume, especially with the tight scheduling.
