Right, now that guff is over and we don't appear much of a threat this season we can concentrate on the bread and butter on Sunday against Leicester. Big question will Dawson be fit and who plays if he isn't.

The short answer is no.

With Carbs missing the game too, McManus HAS to play, and I'd imagine Wheater will play as a batsman only, Gatting and Bates keep their places.

Good to hear Wheater is fit, bad that Gatting retains his place.

He played a T20 y/day for the 2nd XI, but was in tonights squad and didn't get selected, so im unsure, but I can't imagine, McManus+another new guy+Gatting being an option

Benks could always play.

It was pretty poor - I listened to virtually the whole match on Radio Solent. Even Tomlinson who was summariser couldn't say anything positive about it. He did however praise Bates' wicket keeping & all the overs of spin - especially Briggs. He also said it is 8 years since he last played T20 for Hants - way back in 2006.

In the end, we should never have lost that. Yes it looked a tough ask when Vince got out, and we still needed roughly 100 from 10 overs. But Ervine and Coles turned the game around with their partnership. To get us into a position where we needed 34 from 4 overs was a brilliant fightback, and a position that we never should have lost from. Smith and Gatting have a lot to answer for.

Thought Dawson was head and shoulders our best bowler. Abbott, Coles, and Ervine all didn't have great games with the ball, in my opinion. But at the end of the day, 161 is hardly a mammoth total to concede.

Oh, and seeing us use six different bowlers in our first seven overs really did not impress me. In particular Ervine opening the bowler.

I know we were without Wood, and we no longer have Dimi, but six different bowlers in the first seven overs is simply not acceptable in my book. Sort out a plan Vince. Benks might be used to 1000 different bowling options/changes at Durham, but we have proven that you need plans when it comes to your bowlers.

Smith, Gatting and Bates coming in consecutively at the end of a T20 innings is never going to cut it.

Never thought I'd say this 2 or 3 years ago but the biggest negative coming out of last night's game was the Dawson injury.

God knows why we left Wheater out. If he wasn't fit enough yet, then he wouldn't have been named in the squad.

So long as Coles continues to produce a few more innings like he did last night, then I'd be happy for him to keep his place when Carberry and Maxwell return. Although it is important that he does, because for me it would have to be Bates' place that he takes. We can't afford to accommodate both in our baiting line up imo. So:

Carberry
Vince
Adams
Maxwell
Coles
Ervine
Dawson
Wheater
Wood
Abbott
Briggs

But sadly, for the next three games:

Vince
Adams
Ervine
Dawson/Gatting
Smith
Coles
Wheater
Bates
Wood
Abbott
Briggs

Yes, the batsmen didn't step up to the mark & Vince unfortunately was out yet again straight after a brilliant shot.
However Abbott should never have bowled the final over - it so often affects the result of a close match. He conceded 16 apparently but initially Radio Solent said it was 19 then 17. He conceded a free hit & was simply very poor against lower order batsmen - one of the others (not Ervine) who had overs to spare should have bowled but Abbott should never have gone for so many in any case. 10 an over in a tight match is not good enough for a bowler with his reputation.

Abbott seemed to take one on the end of the finger in his final over and had the physio on quickly so not sure if that was affecting him? Don't think Wheater was injured/being protected from injury because he was 12th man! I'd have had him in instead of Gatting personally.

Smiths run out was a bit silly, I think personally Coles could have made it if he'd ran when Smith called it but Smith more or less ran a whole run (and a half probably) in total by the time he was run out.
