Odd decision for Notts to let Hales go out on loan but Worcester will be happy.

Yes, he had a terrible time in 4 day cricket last year but made a 50 in the opening match this year before being dropped for ( I think ) James Taylor who missed the opener through injury.
This is where the overseas player rules are a nonsense-there are so many restrictions preventing signings who would both strengthen individual teams & the overall standard of county cricket but Notts are leaving out a young England opening batsman & playing the veteran Phil Jaques.

Ticket sales for the Sri Lanka internationals described as "poor" in The Times with no sellouts and plenty of "very good" seats available for most games.

A separate article in The Times mentions that Northants have taken a financial hit with the retirement of Swann. They received an annual 6 figure sum " from the ECB for producing an England player before losing him to another county."

Price to watch international cricket is a joke nowadays. £65 to watch an ODI v India in the Western Terrace at Headingley, 4 years ago it was £35 for an ODI v Pakistan.

Totally agree. Funnily enough though The Times article lists various other reasons ( disillusionment after England's poor winter & not playing the ODI's after the test series-the excuse being a full house at Lords for the first test stirs up interest for the rest of the summer, not sure about that)
Surely though the main reason for lacklustre sales is the price.
There was a tannoy announcement the other week about "limited' tickets still being available for the ODI-probably limited to a few thousand!

I know i'd definitely go if the prices were cheaper but i don't see the point in going to watch a match for £65 + travel etc when i could just stay at home and watch it on TV as part of my Sky subscription.

Yes, I'm not going to the Riverside ODI and I only live a few miles away, at the price they're charging I prefer to watch on TV.
The ECB need to find ways of making it less expensive for grounds to stage the games.

Apparently Sunderland FC season ticket holders can get 2 tickets for the price of one. £30 is fair enough but £60 is over the top.

I was talking to someone who works in the local shop, one of his daughters is going to the game with her school and those tickets are also £30 including for any parents who want to go.
Sounds as if Durham are desperately trying to shift the tickets.

Technically then it sounds like those who paid as soon as tickets went on sale are going to be shafted. They paid the penalty of paying full price (maybe a fiver off for being a member)for being among the first to get them. Ok they will be in better seating areas (Don Robson as opposed to Barmy Army) but I'd go in the BA stand if they were half price.

Isn't it the ECB that set ticket prices ??

Maybe some of the counties should come together and refuse to bid on games until something is sorted, especially with so many counties losing money.

Yes, 30-40 pounds would have been reasonable & would have guaranteed a sell out. Of course they must have been confident of selling at least half of the full price tickets and then shifting most of the rest with deals. Not too dissimilar from gig promoters, I believe they were literally giving away Bon Jovi tickets for their show at the Stadium Of Light last year even after some 2 for 1 deals.

Don't know if they actually set the prices but the cost of staging the games probably forces the clubs to charge as much as they feel they can get away with.

I thought Durham "bought" the game for a fixed amount from the ECB then they themselves set the ticket prices accordingly in order to make a profit. I may be wrong though.
