Notts 43/6 at close of play-a run out in the last over for the 6th wicket.

Maybe the England selectors want him to bat in middle-order, that would be one explanation for Gayle leaving himself out as opposed to one of the top 3. Seems very early in the season for a captain to even consider dropping himself so there must be a reason other than lack of form.

Very unlikely England would be interfering with any clubs batting line up. Gale dropped himself on merit plus missing pre-season to injury, whilst the other Yorkshire top 7 have performed with the bat.

Lees and Lyth were initially competing each other for the opening slot, but have justified retaining their place. Rashid may have been another player to make way, Yorkshire play 4 seamers with Root and Williamson bowling part-time spin.

Also when Bairstow comes back, Hodd will be the one to make way.

speaking of England.... more wickets for Finn. Is he back, or is he taking early season wickets, without bowling particularly well?

I think so, Patterson is normally the one dropped ( I think )

Last season Brooks and Plunkett were fighting for the 4th seamers spot, another selection dilemma for Gale next week.

Meanwhile, Bell gets a century against Notts. Was dropped on 7. In great touch though, must top the CC runs table at the moment. Nearly at 400 runs after just 5 innings.

Bell wasn't dropped matt. He got lucky but both balls fell short. After the game he said cheekily, "Perfectly judged." His century wasn't only great batting 18 4s and 2 sixes but a stand out century on a day difficult for batsmen around the country. Mick Newell said he was a class apart. He's got exactly 400 runs with average (so far) of 100. He says he is enjoying his cricket at Warwickshire. He took a superb catch in the slips as well. It's great that he and Cook seem to be savouring their time in County cricket. I was personally delighted that KP did well today in the IPL. What a pity those 3 are no longer playing together for England.

Don't blame the fielder. The ball fell short. See reports Cricinfo, Guardian.

Only repeating what I read on Twitter - I've just read the Cricinfo article where it said it was near misses rather than drops.

Really strange when you think they have Myburgh and Trego as lower order players who can bat, but will now becoming in right at the end at 9-10....

Wonder how many teams can boast a number 10 playing with an average of 40 plus.....

I can see Patel and Read putting up a fight at Notts, talking of nightwatchman going down - unless the conditions are really against them. For some reason Notts have banned the heavy roller from the game so the pitch is beginning to acquire some indentations apparently.

What's the follow on target in CC, is it 150 or 200?
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.
