Either way to cover the "Northants win" Durham don't want to leave less than say 300 on the board, and more than 2 sessions to get it. And the more time they give to bowl them out, the high the risk they get skittled for nothing, or the lower the obtainable target.

Difficult game for Durham to approach batting third. Do you slog and risk making 200 by the end of today, giving Northants a very realistic chance of winning.... ? Did you make sure you put runs on the board and play into Northants wishes of a draw?

Either way, on a flat pitch you would expect Northants able to draw the game

Tricky game captaincy. I'd guess Durham will dangle a mangey carrot, and N'hants will ignore it.

Wells falls for 57, Yardy joins Joyce, 195 more required.

With Mustard at 5 there's a fair chance Durham could get bowled out even if we're not trying to go after the bowling. Northants are unlikely to be contesting the title come the end of the season so under most circumstances I'd be in favour of an attacking declaration because it's not as if a defeat would 'hand' points to a likely title rival. However, considering it's a flat pitch, first game of the season and with the declaration last year v Yorkshire ( a decision I thought was correct at the time-no one could have predicted the pitch would flatten out so much & even then it took a brilliant innings from Root to win it) I am fairly sure Colly will take no chances and the aim will be to completely bat Northants out of the game before even considering the possibility of declaration. I'd be surprised though if we end up in full control of our destiny in this match-a clatter of wickets could come at anytime!

Interesting turnaround in the Essex v Derby game. Essex now have a good chance of winning.

Myburgh out for 91 on his Somerset debut, good to see an ex-Hant do well.

Doubt we'll get there. Last 2 wicket partnerships killed our chances.
