For some reason I thought Smith bowled medium paced Vince esque, rather than offspin...a few times I have suggested leaving Briggs out and been shot down, so i expect he will start, his batting came on leaps and bounds last year, him and Tommo at 10 and 11 is VERY re-assuring.

Coles and Abbott make us look as strong as we have been since probably 2008 on paper ( Bond and Tremlett ), hopefully Slug won't be needed to bowl much and can focus purely on his batting, Carbs will probably feel he has a point to prove, Vince and Dawson will look to kick on from successful personal seasons last year, I more confident now than I have been in years.

We should be up there or thereabouts. As always a good start will help a lot - 3rd place was predicted in a cricket magazine and 3rd or 4th is my prediction but I hope we get promoted at last & don't end up as a cricket equivalent of Rochdale!

Perhaps we'll have the sort of run that Bournemouth (or Liverpool for that matter) are currently enjoying - a good spell of weather would be good as well but these early starts to a season means that in early April it's perishing cold to be sitting still watching cricket!

Joe Gatting scored a 50 ( 62 I think ) in a 2 day friendly against Sussex over the weekend.

Nothing in the 'match' against Middlesex has filled me with much optimism for the season ahead. However, I was very impressed with the Carberry interview in Tuesday's Guardian. As Bransgrove has just said (at the Forum?) it probably won't help his England career but it was a clear and reasoned account of the winter tour. How a player who was the second highest scorer in limited overs cricket last season didn't play in any of the one day matches over the winter when it was such a debacle beggars belief. England's loss will hopfully be Hants' gain.

Definitely one of the strangest selection decisions over the winter.

Kyle Abbott is currently playing in a 4 day game for the Dolphins in South Africa ( scored 33not out), which ends Sunday, so he is 100% missing for our opening game, I know this was always the official case, so can't be dis-appointed, but I did hold a little hope that Rod would strike a deal to get him here early ( like he did with the Titans to keep Tahir in 2008 )

Briggs not in the squad tommorow? What do you guys think the line up will look like then, it's a hard one with Smith and Gatting.

Adams,Carbs,Dawson,Vince,Smith,Ervine,Wheater, Coles,Balcs,Tommo, those 10 are a lock, the last spot between Gatting and Brathwaite will probably be based on conditions on Sunday, I'd rather play Gatting at 7, but I expect Brathwaite.

I didn't expect that, I thought Dawson was being groomed as our next captain, I heard Adams say that he didn't particularly want to be the T20 captain..so maybe Vince will take over that role ?

And now thats official, Vince is the T20 captain.

By the look of the forecast for Sunday and Monday it looks like it will make little difference.
