I think calls for Robson and Ali are definitely overstated at present, and I have a horrible feeling Buttler will take the gloves off Bairstow.

I'd be shocked if England decided to ignore the spinner issue.

Robson probably, Moeen Ali on the other hand suggests he's being groomed for test selection considering he has made the Windies and World T20 squads.

A wild guess, Robson being in the side, let alone opening, I reckon.

There isn't much overlap between the T20 side and the test side.

True, it's the T20 squad in the Caribbean even though there are ODIs.

But Moeen is in SL so he must be somewhere on the radar for a Test place. And has been bowling before the specialist.

Moeen is as much of a specialist spinner as Borthwick is, in fact I'd not be suprised if he bowled more than Borthwick did last season.

In the CC 1&2.

Moeen: 284 overs, 28 wickets at 34. 3.3rpo.
Bwick: 266 overs, 28 wickets at 38. 4.0rpo

Thank you, Arthur. It is possible that England are viewing Moeen actually as the spinner in the side, as I said, he's just as much of a specialist spinner as Borthwick is these days.

Perhaps the thinking may be that Ali would allow Onions, Anderson and Broad to all play.

Still, it's rather laughable that either are considered when Kerri took nearly 60 at 20 last season.

If Kerrigan was picked and gave a repeat performance, then it would look like an idiotic selection. At least with the other two, you get some batting. I'd guess that Kerrigan will play a bit of Lions cricket before gets another cap. We'll need a specialist spinner when we go to Asia, which won't be for a while. Until then, we might manage with part timers. Maybe we could try Kerrigan in the WI in a year's time.

Wickets for onions and Borthwick this morning but a very good recovery from Sri Lanka. Borthwick very expensive compared to everyone else.

Could England be thinking of playing Onions, Anderson, Broad and Bresnan with Moeen batting in the top seven and providing the spin?

I imagine Stokes will be one of the four bowlers.

Kerrigan and Borthwick both expensive, but at least have taken wickets.

Two wickets for Onions with each new ball. Good day for the Lions.

I don't think we'll see Trott playing again for England for quite some time, if at all. 4 to 8 could become 3 to 7, leaving room at 8 for a proven bowler who can bat a bit.

Trott? Can he realistically tour, a prerequisite of international cricket surely?

With Giles involved in the test set up I think we may well see Trott back this year. If not then Ballance could come in or Carbs. I certainly wouldn't mind Bresnan playing but i think that Onions as a pure bowler edges him out. If it's a number 10 or 11 then onions if it's an 8 then Bresnan.
