Perhaps I'm being extraordinarily naive, but if gambling in India was legalised, regulated, and taxed, would that solve the problem? Surely it's the underground nature of betting in India that allows this sort of thing to happen? If bookmakers were legitimised, they might be less willing to involve themselves in corrupt practices.

Durham, the law in your country is strong. We cannot compare that with Indian governance, law system etc. Here, there is so much bureaucracy, interference of government in investigations, destruction of evidence, corruption etc. The investigation officer dies in this scandal last week.Key people/evidence destroyed.I would nto be surprised if the recorded evidence goes corrupt. So in such environment if one gives free hand to bad activities and expect to turn good, then it is actually going to get worse because they will have license.

Legalizing betting in India is like giving thief the responsibility of guarding your house.

When this happened with the Pakistan players, it was said that a significant reason was their lack of money, and if they played in IPL, the temptation wouldn't be as strong to take money from criminals. Sreeanth must be very rich, and plays in the IPL. Accepting that nothing has been proven yet.

I've always felt gambling should be run by the state, as in Monaco, and reasonable profits kept for public projects.

In the UK, online gambling is huge. Only one company pays any tax on profits. Can't remember which one, but I know it is based in Stoke and owned by a woman. Just as an aside.

Yes, the point that if Pakistan players get more money they will stop fixing is futile.Even the business tycoons who are richer than top sportsman do some type of fraud or other.

Police have recorded audio evidence which matches with the video evidence of the match between Rajasthan and Punjab,

Evidence

It was decided that Sreesanth will give 13+ runs in an over. He will bowl with a towel and that was the agreed signal for bookies. The bookies told that they also needed time to place bets, so Sreesanth placed the towel in trousers pocket and did warmup and wasted some time so that bookies could get bets.He gave more than decided number of runs.According to the websites this evidence is being telecasted all over India by Delhi police.

They also say that Chandila agreed to give 13+ runs and signal would be he would take up the t shirt. But he forgot to do it but he did gave as many runs.It is all tapped in the records.

BTW i have to laugh at bookies. Why do they fix Sreesanth to give 13+ runs.He will give them even without fixing :lmao

Sreesanth didn't give enough runs in the supposed fixed over Adi. He was meant to give 14 but gave only 13.

"Jiju and another bookie talked that Sreesanth will give 14 or more in the second over. He won't do anything unusual, but before the start of the second over he will stick a towel at the front of his trousers."

"He asked for the towel before the second over. He went into warm-ups and stretching after that. And conceded 13"

Mumbai and Rajasthan and Rajasthan versus Kings 11 fixed.
Kingpin is Sreesanth, his clubmate Jiju Janardhan apparently got ookies and Sreesanth in contact.Sree told Chandila to meet boolie in mall. Chandila convinced Ankeet to get involved.40 lacs and 60 lacs paid to cricketers.

Other important news coming up.Tait not involved.

No ddb he fixed.I will watch TV when i reach home to give confirmed comments.but what i heard there is enough evidence showed on news to ascertain fixing.

Did RR lose those? All the games I know of that were tampered with, the team of the offending player has lost. So there has been no problem leaving the result intact.

Maybe someone can enlighten me. I don't understand betting at all, but where's the money that's made by this fixing come from?

The only thing I can see is that if a bowler is 'fixed' to concede 13 runs in a particular over, then a lot of people will have to bet that he won't; then, when he does, the bookies make the money.

Is that right?

If it is, there must be an awful lot of suckers about.

No, that can't be right.

Fraudsters see a signal of some kind, or the over has been decided in advance, call the bookies and place their bet. It's the bookies who lose out; how sad.

It comes from people who want to earn money by placing bets. At the moment cricket betting is illegal in India, but a lot of people place bets through undercover operators.

I don't think at the end of the accounting year , bookies go into loss.

I don't see how that would help, SP. Loads of things are illegal but still happen.

As soon as it becomes legal, its easy to monitor and would reduce fixing.
