Pretty much what happened with VVS and why would Dravid bite the bullet considering the fairly amazing series he'd had in England?

ddb wrote:Did you watch Dravid in Australia? He was pretty much done, as that was going to be the 3rd time he would have to recover. That was 100% his decision, I don't doubt, especially as he did it just after the series ended unlike VVS. Wouldn't give any credit to selectors there for transitioning the side, they got a free opportunity to bed someone in.
VVS was probably nudged though although that wasn't with this current selection panel, who have actually transitioned the players well-ish. Even then he had to go. It was stupid that the old selection panel picked for the NZ series and then it changed for England which meant the current selectors couldn't change much before and during the England series. Their big mistake has been with Bhajji who they picked, rightly dropped and then decided to pick again ahead of the best spinner in India.

Like it or not but he has never been dropped in 23 years of test cricket and he won't be dropped however strong the agenda of his critics is. His 70 against Aussies when we were in trouble in the recent test was what bought India back in test match. India has depended heavily on him in both formats and even in this series his contributions have been timely.

At some stage he will be dropped if he doesn't take matters into his own hands, one good series at home against a very poor bowling attack in the conditions - just to put it in context - does not make a summer.
India's next series is against the best pace attack in the world on what will be pace friendly wickets.

He will be not be dropped because he won't fail as he has got into habit of succeeding more often than not for 23 years. He will retire when his fitness will become a problem. Until he is fit his form will stay, such is his ability. His retirement will depend on his fitness and he will announce his retirement once he knows his body is letting him down.

He won't fail where?
In South Africa?
That's a rather large statement to make.
As for his fitness, how is he going to stay match fit seeing as the next Test series isn't untill November?

I wonder how it can be said that he will fail even when he has not even stepped in South Africa. I am aware of what he does to maintain his fitness and skills in Mumbai when he is not on cricket tours. I bet he will retire and won't be dropped as has been the case in 23 years of his international career. Fair enough if some feel he will be dropped. Let time tell whether he is dropped or retires.
Making_Splinters wrote:Oh he'll retire, whether or not it will actually be at a time of his own choosing is a completely seperate manner.
Like I said previously, technically VVS retired.
