Exact timing will probably depend on how he goes in the Australia series...and perhaps how some of the young ones do too ?

I would like to see him get a hundred against Australia (though with Australia winning ) as an appropriate swansong...

Don't really understand why he's retired from a format he's been nothing but a bit part player in since at least the World Cup, no one would have batted an eye lid had he been "rested" for the England ODI series.

He couldn't have rested from the Pak ODIs if he wanted to play Ranji or some cricket before Aus. There were only two options, retirement/dropped or he plays some of the 8 ODIs.

He could have played the Pakistan series - I am amazed he retired before it to be honest! - and then skipped the England ODIs.

It just seems such a token retirement considering his involvement in the ODI team these days.

If he wanted to play Mumbai's last Ranji game before the knockouts(that they might not be in) he would need to skip the Pak ODIs.

It is often believed by many who have watched Rohit closely that the next class of Sachin in India is Rohit Sharma. In a nets practice session at BKC (Mumbai), one bowler bowled a delivery to Rohit which hit his pads . Rohit, for no reason got angry and started shouting at the bowler. He cannot even tolerate that someone can hit his pads. Rather than trying to degrade someones good bowling at him, he tried to show that it was a bad ball or how could someone hit his pads. While he was yelling , Sachin walked in and he spoke no more angry words at that bowler.

Sachins retirement in tests whenever he decides to call it a day will be a huge blow. Already couple of years have passed and we havent replaced Saurav. Then we need to replace Rahul. Then V. V. S. . If we cant find replacement of Saurav in two years, Rahul and VVS, then how are we going to find a replacement of sachin. I hope we find a batsman who scores even 50% of test tons that Sachin has or 50% of test runs Sachin has or even stays half the years in test team . That itself would be achievement. Forget 100% Sachin's replacements. I will be satisfied even if someone replaces Sachin by 50% of his test achievements. same for his ODI replacement.

India will only fail if they try and replace Sachin ( which Adi has kind of mentioned in last post ) if every batsman coming into the side is going to be judged on what Sachin has done, they are doomed.

Tendulkar is a once in a lifetime player.

Yes, he is once in lifetime player. That's why i mentioned would be satisfied even if his replacement does even half of what he has done. I am not at all expecting the inexperienced players to replace Saurav, Rahul, VVS or Sachin fully at this point of time.

The guy who replaced VVS, Pujara has done well and Kohli has been the second best batsman this year for India. Experience counts only if the batsman is making runs.

Without trying a young player, you will never know whether he is good enough or not. Anyway, whoever comes into replace SRT can't do any worse than what SRT has done this year
