I am all for the process of developing a new opener gradually, and it should be addressed on priority.

I would be intersted to know what you see as the priorities for the Indian team at the moment.

Personally I think they need to identify a middle order batsman and pick two pacers and stick with them.

With regards to Rahane, as I suggested above, he could either be opening or at three, nestled in amongst the old guard for a series or two.

A opener in the test format who can cover the swing more often than not. Someone who will show more application, better shot selection to protect the wicket.

i also think that Rahane will be the future test opening batsman, has a terrific record, and looks to be a brilliant player.

Ajinkya is definitely in the selectors minds. They took him to England and made him open there as they feel he has potential to open in seaming conditions. I always believe Mumbai players will have some advantage for tough tours due to the previous editions of Kanga League, but not the current generation (those playing Under 22 as of now) . Having said that he has to show consistency now that he has impressed a lot of people. Only time will tell.

From whatever little I have seen of him as a batsman Manoj Tiwari looks ok.

Without giving youngsters a chance how can one come to know whether they are good enough or not.There are fans though who seem to think every time you say a great player perhaps can retire it is about criticising the legend.

Now it is coming from someone who backed SRT to the hilt after the disastrous 2007 WC but I just believe if India don't give the likes of Tiwari or Rahane a decent run now in One-day cricket then I don't see them succeeding.

Tendulkar has played 17 one day matches total in the last three years by my reckoning. He's generally been picky about them, opting to play against the better teams, in meaningful games, or in tougher conditions. That means playing in the World Cup, in South Africa and in Australia. I might add at this point that the rest of the batting hasn't been so hot in South Africa and Australia. With me so far?

1 - He hasn't 'stopped playing them' (your wise words in bold) after the world cup. At no point did he suggest that he was quitting.
2 - He isn't 'suddenly really after this 100'. That's been in the offing a while now. He could've opted to play some garbage home one-dayers if he wished.
3 - His potential replacements haven't set the world on fire away from home. Rahane tailed away after a bright start. Rohit and Raina are finding conditions too hot to handle right now.
4 - In case you haven't noticed, batting has been hard work (rightly so!) all summer. There have been *zero* centuries and *zero* 300 plus scores. There's definitely a bit in it for the bowlers (especially with 2 new balls) in every game and that 100th isn't a gimme.

In summary, Tendulkar might well be past it for one-dayers, but to suggest that he's suddenly playing these games at the cost of a better player just so that he can get a gimme 100 is ... well ...

The Asia Cup doesn't fit the bill, to put it mildly. And Sachin hasn't contributed much in this one-day series. I don't know what to think anymore.

Asia Cup doesn't fit what bill? Maybe it fits Sachin's bill, it's away from home and next test series is in September. Playing Pakistan is fricking rare too.

If people wanted him to play more series, isn't he doing that now?

Can't win.

Although, selectors need to decide his ODI future tbh.
