But by rotating the seniors on a game by game basis has he not already reduced the chances of them actually making a difference?

So why suddenly run back to two players who are in terrible nick, and you have actively prevented them from getting back into their stride, as I said above, it really makes no sense aside from Dhoni trying to appease the vultures.

Not really.

But that depends whether you consider as you do that this would have affected their form, which I don't, they've all had two-three games in a row.

It makes sense to create a batting squad that has more than 7 options and to give different players chances in Aus. What has happened is the youngsters haven't taken their chances and the Sehwag and Sachin have struggled to kick on. Maybe Tiwary should have come in for Rohit/Raina earlier but ah well.

Has the aim suddenly shifted from giving players experiance to winning games, if Dhnoi has so little faith in his youngsters to win games he has to scrap his rotation policy the second push comes to shove, then was he deliberately weakening the top order to ensure the middle order got a chance to bat?

Nope, I think you're reading a little too much into it, overcomplicating the situation. No policy will be perfect.

I'm just having a little fun at Dhoni's expense here.

First it was about fielding, then experiance, now it is suddenly a situation where India have to win and it's we should stop experimenting.

Essentially all he is doing is furiously back peddling away from a policy which has been directly linked to him, and one that has gone badly.

But he hasn't back pedalled with the suggestion that the youngsters would play as long as India were in a decent position in the comp. Fielding was a point brought out very recently because no one believed him that he wanted to rotate the seniors for the youngsters. And then everyone believed that and that there is a rift or something.

So he is admiting that India have been putting out a weakened side for the all the previous matches?

That's going to go down well with the press back home.

I had a discussion with my club mates about Sachin when we met today. They do think that Sachin has a lot to offer in both formats of the game even now. Some succinct observations popped up as we talked about his fitness as well. Now after this discussion I don't have courage to ask my coach "Sir, should Sachin retire" :scared .

Haha.. Makes me remember the 10 rounds of the club ground he gave as punishment during our club days for reaching late for nets once. Don't want it again :D

I don't think anyone could argue that Tendulkar has nothing to offer the Indian side in the ODI format, he remains one of the best batsman the team can field regardless of his age.

My argument has been, that his selection along side Gambhir and Sehwag is counter productive to a side if they are explicity trying to build up experiance within the team, for my money if all three are picked in the squad they should all be playing, there is an order of magnitude difference in class between those three and the players that are forcing them to be rotated for.

Gambhir's fielding is embarassing and he doesn't bowl. While these are not the be all and end all in ODIs they are deal breakers.

I would lose him way before Sachin.
Ian Bell: first England player to 10,000 Test runs.
Stuart Broad: first England player to 400 test wickets.

I have also been saying the same on this thread that he can still offer a lot in both formats. So i agree with you. :thumb

Also agree that there is a difference in class between those 3 and the players who are forcing them to be rotated.

Which is why I have been saying that Tendulkar should be stepping aside if the aim is to build up a group of experianced players or at least one of the three should be fully missing a tour on a rotational policy.

The other option would be to move the three of them around the batting line up to allow the player you want to build up to play in the position best suited for them, for example if Rahane was to be rotated in then he could open then have Tendulkar, Sehwag and Gambhir respectively batting through 1 to 4, Kohli at five then another open slot at six.

I have been encouraging England to work a degree of rotation into our plans, but I struggle to see why you should pick three of your best players when you are only going to play two of them in any given game, unless the brown stuff is on the fan, which ultimately for me, just says you haven't got confidance in the younger players.

I am all for the process of developing a new opener gradually, and it should be addressed on priority.
