India the Test Future?

What's buzzing in the world of cricket....

Wouldn't you rather give a youngster the chance and establish Sehwag in the middle order. You can't shove Rahane in 2 years time and expect miracles. It's nothing to do with playing the best team anymore, is it? It's building a team for the future, it's transition. You need to long term rather than short term IMO. Otherwise you keep Dravid, Laxman and Sachin for home. They'll perform.

It is no guarantee that he'll be lethal at home either, he had an average series vs WI.

So do we not pick our strongest test team at home, and thus risk losing at home?

or should we have slightly different teams for home and away. We recognise conditions by chaning bowlers and playing 2 spinners at home but only one away - why not have a different opener for away tests?

Honestly, the thought has occurred to me as well and I still find it a little funny :)

There is a solution to it but it is long term. I have said it before and I will say it again - make similar pitches at home. Converting even 25% pitches would be a huge advantage, both to our batsmen and bowlers. Currently the idea may sound ridiculous because of our inability to take advantage of it while bowling as well as batting on it effectively. But, that's precisely the reason why we need to implement the idea.

There is no other solution, that I can think of! That BCCI joker's bold statement about playing home series and setting record straight is absolutely spanking worthy :rasta

What you do is have rank turners for the first 2/3 tests of a series. Once you've won them, play on a greentop for the last test ;)

nah - would rather go for the kill. If we are going to get whitewashed baway from home, tehn we should try and win by whitewash at home!

IMO Indian selectors should avoid the mistake of selecting test match squad on basis of performance of batsmen in ODI's.

agree about Jadeja, but I think his bowling is good enough for him to be a second spinner in a 4 man attack, so with him at 7, Dhoni at 8 and Ashwin at 9 that looks like a really deep batting line up. Ashwin and Jadeja can be supported by Viru in the spin department. Zak and Umesh should be well suited to exploit reverse swing at home as well

Yes, he has had an exemplary Ranji season. I was referring to specialist batsmen though in my post. We cannot replace one of the big 3 or other specialist batsmen with a non specialist batsmen. That will be a blunder.
