How Good Is Timothy Bresnan?

What's buzzing in the world of cricket....

It wasn't just that he bowled an over that had gone for 25 runs, it was because he was bowling without any semblance of control and was emotionally letting in water. The people around him felt there was a problem as well, including his county. I thought this issue had gone away, it used to reappear at every new squad selection, however well England were doing. It is encouraging that he did well at the first big bash. And has continued to take wickets for his county. Struggled a bit in the Champions League, but there is a difference between struggling and what we saw with England.

having a genuine leg spinner capable of batting at #6 or #7 is something almost any side in world cricket would love to have and i think england maybe rushed him a little as he could have been the missing link in our side from a balance perspective.

He was rushed in under a great deal of public pressure.

The selectors should take most of the responsibility for Rashid’s disappointments. They selected him for ODIs, when his domestic one-day performances weren’t great and they passed him over for test selection when he had performed well in the Championship. It was not one of their better decisions.

Rashid now has to perform well at Yorkshire and make the selectors pick him again. This, time, with a bit of luck, they may pick him for the right format.

Ironically England should've selected Rashid for the ODI tour of India rather than Borthwick, as he was amongst the wickets in CB40.

I've said this before and i'll say it again, it was only until 2010 when Dilly became a genuine bowler who can play in all formats. Last year his form and confidence suffered in County Cricket because Andrew Gale was bowling Rashid just to avoid a negative over-rate.

If Rashid has aspirations to play for England, for me he has got to leave Yorkshire.

As for that over that went for 25, Cook should have held his nerve. Even de Villiers said he could have come in the next over and got a wicket and they were surprised he didn't get another over. He went out to the Big Bash and was the second leading wicket taker in the series and in the winning team with excellent figures. I think he is a great little character.

I agree. Gale hasn't been using Rashid to get the best out of him.

Worth a full central contract, one of only 10 awarded this time round.

Even if his bowling form has dipped (and not just his figures), the ECB obviously regard his abilities highly and have backed their judgment with a substantial sum of money.

Of course he's worth a central contract, I can't see why anyone would disagree on that. He's a regular squad pick in all formats and, when he bowls well, can be an effective bowler. He's a ready made replacement for Stuart Broad if he is injured.
Anything can happen with a round ball.

Coz we're going up, and we'll win the cup, for Sussex by the Sea!

im happy that he has been handed a central contract....has been a key part of england's plans in all forms of the game, yes he is having a dip in form at the moment, but still very reliable when needed.

And Bresnan has another central contract...

I thought his current and recent injury problems may have seen him without a full central contract this year. It shows, I suppose, how highly the ECB rate him and suggests, hopefully, favourable reports from the medical team.

Not at all sorry to see Morgan lose his central contract.

All I can say to HARRY POTTER is that he never saw Sobers bowl fast. At one time he had got more opening batsmen out in test cricket for no score than any other bowler in history.

Bresnan is a very good cricketer and a very honest one. He would not be in my first ten but nevertheless a fine player.

Good news from Yorkshire's financial perspective, though it would be wishful thinking for the club to re-invest Root's wages on an experienced batsman or two.
