If you have problems with any post or poster, it's better to make it known to a mod in pm than to bring it out on the board.

Hopefully we can get this back on to topic.

Not sure if that was a comment for me.

However I agree with your point.

I don't think I have tried to wind people up. All I have had are my own views and opinions. I object to being called a Troll because it has such a horrible meaning.

I don't mind my opinions being called ridiculous, though would prefer to have that backed with some info or a reason, which for the most part they have. That provokes discussion and disagreement but thats the point isnt it?

How boring would it be if we all though Morgan should play and the bowling attack in the first Test should be 3+1?

I like this board because people seem happy to disagree, I would not have thought me having opinions different to others is a big issue is it?

Incidentally is it my lack of smilies that means people miss the sarcasm etc? :gun etc

Back on topic then.

Has Bresnan being lucky to win all 10 of his matches or does he make a big difference?

I would suggest a mixture of both. Who he has played (Bang etc early on) and when (end of series when the opposition are already demorilised) but he certainly brings something to the bowling that I would not have thought possible 4 + years ago when his bowling was County standard (though showing glimpses).

Most players require an element of luck to get into an international team, surprisingly few make it in on their own merit. Of the current team...

Strauss - lucky Nasser got injured before Lord's, home ground and batting track to stake his claim.
Cook - lucky Trescothick retired, opened an opening slot for him.
Trott - lucky Bopara floundered and KP was injured, creating a slot in 2009.
KP - lucky Thorpe retired when he did.
Bell - lucky to be given enough time to prove himself.
Morgan - Lucky Collingwood retired and there are so few replacement options.
Prior - lucky Ambrose was so awful with the bat he got a second chance.
Bresnan - lucky with early series as above
Broad - arguably merit but was probably rushed in earlier on the lucky basis that Harmison and Hoggard turned up so under-cooked in NZ.
Swann - lucky to get a recall to the ODI side to restart his international career.
Anderson - lucky with Hoggard retiring to open up a permanent slot for an opening swing bowler.

Tremlett - merit to get back into contention in 2010.
Finn - lucky his first series was against a woeful West Indies.
Panesar - merit, but fortunate that everyone realised just how poor Giles was.
Onions - fortunate to be on this tour and to have gone injury free for a while when first picked.
Davies - merit
Bopara - the luckiest man in the history of English cricket bar none.

Right, doubtless that's now annoyed everyone because "well xxxxx was clearly merit because etc." and "clearly xxxxx is fortunate because etc.", so now we've all agreed on something we can put it all behind us.

Geraint Jones would still be keeping wicket. Finn would probably be in, he bowls fast enough for Fletcher.

This impression probably has much to do with many peoples’ first view of Bresnan in the ODIs against Sri Lanka a few years ago, in which all our bowlers got carted by a superb Sri Lankan batting line-up.

Most people who have seen Bresnan since he started his career at Yorkshire, and some of his junior career before that, would say that he is now fulfilling the potential he has always had. Quite frankly, comparisons with Austin are laughable.

Well thats always the case with players. If you watch them come through you woud have more of an insight into them. With hindsight he was clearly picked a little early, but he wasnt the first to be and wont be the last.

Whats your view on Rashid btw?

Rashid has been badly handled by the selectors, HP. For Yorkshire, his forté has always been in the longer form of the game, rather than in one day matches, yet he was selected for ODIs and not tests. The selectors got it the wrong way round and now Borthwick is probably ahead of him in the pecking order.

Still, England’s loss will hopefully be Yorkshire’s gain, just like it was when Vaughan was playing for England.

A rather exagerrated statment. Stokes is not in jail and will not appear before a court just the Durham hierarchy and maybe the ECB .

I could not agree with you more on Rashid...very badly treated and I don't understand the mantra that he is too young. 2 years ago he should have being picked when Monty was on the wane. He had 150+ FC wickets at a very respectable average and he can bat. If he was on this tour and had being given the previous experience he could have balanced our team.

Rashid should have gone to Bangladesh last year. Tredwell did a good job, but he was never going to be more than a good county spinner and England therefore wasted the perfect opportunity to give Rashid his debut in favourable conditions.

England wanted to take Rashid to Bangladesh, but he bowled so poorly when given the chance that winter, and showed an unhelpful attitude off the pitch that he couldn't be picked. Ultimately Rashid wasn't good enough. People wanted to believe that we had a leg spinning all rounder. Who wouldn't want one. But he was being made to fit the part, rather being the real thing.

He has to start again. He wasn't let down. He was given an opportunity to impress.
I always say that everybody's right.
