'Investigators alleged Westfield "agreed to bowl his first over in such a way as to allow a certain number of runs to be scored." That centres on the use of deliberate wides and no-balls. During the match under investigation, Westfield conceded 60 runs in seven overs, with four wides and two no-balls. It was screened live on Sky TV around the world. "A 22-year old professional cricketer has today has been charged with conspiracy to defraud under common law and will appear at magistrates' court in London next week," read a statement issued by Essex Police. "The offence relates to a cricket match played on September 5, 2009, when Essex were playing Durham." '

cant believe it was true...im glad the club got rid of him when they did...
however this could have bigger implications on the domestic game.

It appears as if other players taking part in the match noticed something suspicious was going on,wonder what aroused their suspicisions? Obviously the Pakistan players convicted of spot-fixing were damned by the NOTW video, it'd be interesting to discover what the evidence was in this case.
Nasser Hussain has said Westfield should not be banned for life, I understand Nasser's point but do not agree unless Westfield was somehow acting against his will-highly unlikely.
Apparently he only conceded 10 from his first over and not the agreed 12 runs.Return to International Cricket
