I wasn't aware of that, that would certainly explain his new decision. I wouldnt be suprised if threats had been made against his family unless he returns either, Pakistan is really messed up.

never understood why he didn't get his family out first, before he decided to get on a plane to England himself - didn't make any sense

Wasnt he in Abu Dhabi at the time ?? I guess in a situation like that you just panic or perhaps his family refused to leave.
