If the umpire sees the ball turning from well outside off and strike the pad in line with leg stump is he obliged to give it? I genuinely don't know any more. Hawkeye seems to have changed umpire perceptions of what is and isn't out these days

From what I can see, its the opposite DFM.

Aside from the absolute howler mentioned (which cant be justified on any grounds), I would say if anything umpires routinely refuse appeals on height a lot. Anything you expect to hit the top third of the stumps is often declined. I have seen probably 5 or 6 plumb lbws given not out this year (going both ways) based on the umpire saying its going over, when it clearly wasnt.

The pitch in Derby is so green, its barely distinguishable from the surrounding outfield. Overcast conditions, could be a tough day for the batters

Good to see Robbo this morning with a bit of extra zip about him. Unlucky to have only one wicket to his name, just gave Reece a thorough working over, but was just too good to find the bat. Pitch playing a lot better than it looks, no really movement. A lot of Sussex fielders looking at the ball puzzled why they cant get it moving.. maybe we got a dud?

Just as I type that Hudson-Prentice serves up a beauty. pitches middle, cuts a long way, smashes top of off... got to be in great form to get bat on them. 50/2

Sussex prize out another. 2 balls later Simpson drops Lamb, probably be costly.. :angry Kept brilliantly so far in the last 3 games, first error he's made.

Talking of umpiring again.... I (and Sussex) thought that Reece knicked one behind off the leg side, not given. Couple of overs later Madsen does the same, wasn't convinced that time he did get bat on it, but that time it was given out. :hmmm

EDIT - cost 2 runs. Lamb misses one on middle stump, no umpire is making a mistake then. As plumb as possible.

Derbyshire wobbling. Get Robbo back on, another wicket here before lunch and the game can be blasted open

All happening last few overs Donald drops his first ball beind square on the offside, decides he wants a run, gets halfway down before he noticed his partner aint having it... can't see who gets the throw in, but Simpson was just about at the stumps to receive a tame throw and whip the bails off, cover fielder instead goes for a hollywood shy at the stumps that flies past ....

Donald survives. Poor fielding costing us a wicket again. Just needed to get the ball to Simpson

First runs Reece has made this season, I think.

It's a bowling day so far, where play has been possible. Could do with a few results. Rain is supposed to stay away after today.

You got his fifty, but another nipper from Hudson-Prentice hits the top of off.... good, as a partnership had just developed.

Robbo had a spell of about 5 overs either side of lunch where he had it on a rope. Unbelievably unlucky not to have got a wicket...

EDIT- Has now...

Missed one run out with a crap piece of fielding, but Chappell just been run out with a laser throw!!

Derbyshire struggling to make 200 now. If Tickner came in at 7 down, and instantly nearly got knocked out walking into a bouncer from a test player, I have to guess those below him can barely hold a bat..

Judging on Tickner's luck so far, the day will end with him on an unbeaten 200 composed entirely of golf swings

See my comment from earlier. The pitch is very green, so I dont imagine it will be a run fest.
