County Championship 2023

apologies to Arthur for starting this

ECB CEO Richard Gould has said that the Strauss proposals for cutting the number of matches in the CC and having a Hundred only August are 'dead in the water', which I presume means they were roundly rejected by the counties.

Clearly the strategy of Hundred carrot dangling to 12 of the counties didn't work

I love the idea of the ECB going to the counties and saying "yeah guys, what we want to do is cut all the cricket you make money off, so we make more room to steal your talent for another competition we make money off"....

Did they expect the turkey's to vote for Christmas?

Not much new deal high risk batting going on, but Yorks have got to 100 at five an over.

they thought that if they could tempt them with 4 extra Hundred teams, that the proposed 12 Hundred counties would vote it through

lots of weather slowing things down a bit

I can imagine in 4-5 years, the hundred will develop into a 18 team competition with 18 different county venues, and the only thing achieved with this whole farcial rebranding exercise will be the fact seasoned cricket veterans don't even know the rules of the competition, and instead of Kent playing Sussex, it will be the "South East of London Supercharged Mavericks v the Slightly more West of South East London Powerfilled Megamen"......

Definitely worth tearing up the county game and spending 100s of million on to achieve.

Of course, I wont be watching.

Durham are 98 after 19, so same path.

I'm assuming this is because of the revised bonus points structure, although Alex Lees (52* off 56 balls) probably also has one eye on England

it's the div 2 teams that seem to be embracing the fast batting

Durham 117-0 after 22
Derby 92-2 after 15
Yorks 186-2 after 36
(I won't mention Gloucester on 21-1 after 17)

meanwhile the div 1 boys are positively sauntering

Essex 119-2 after 40
Surrey 158-4 after 51
Notts 161-7 after 49

Teatime round up

Notts all out for 185. 6 for Abbas

Northants 77-6. Stewart doing the damage for Kent

196-5 as Foakes drags Surrey out of the mire from 77-4 against Lancs

Derbys 156-3, bombing along at about 6 an over v Worcs

Yorks and Essex both matches off for the weather. Yorks 186-2 and Essex 136-2

Durham 161-1 v Sussex

Gloucs recover a little to 71-2. they managed to score some runs once the Glammy change bowlers came on. Podmore and van der Gugten conceded only 16 runs from their 16 over opening spell

no play today for Somerset v Warks

Nice to see a few England players out there, braving the weather. Not the bowlers, obviously.
