not sure how much play we'll get on days 2 and 3, so really ought to make the most of the sunny, mild weather today

Typical that the county cricket season starts so early that everyone had to scrape their cars this morning

just noticed that Glover is back from NL duty, but de Leede isn't. Didn't play in any of the first 3 ODI's v Zim, so has he been retained for the 2 matches v SA or is he injured?

Pretty much going as expected here -73/2 in response to 111 all out- although Borthwick has gone for 0, caught down the leg side!

I saw that. he wasn't pleased.

can't get on the club website since I got home and nobody seems to be reporting any uni scores

For all the talk of playing like England, McKinney and Whitfield were very circumspect for a very long time and it took quite a while to bring up the 50 opening partnership. Then 2 quick wickets...... Whitfield got hit on the pads so many times that eventually the umpire was going to raise the finger. Capt Chaos had a swipe in the next over and got strangled down the leg side. Bedders came out intent on upping the scoring rate with a 2 and a 4 to cover either side of an edge down to 3rd man.

Glover didn't look that quick to me and got got caned a bit by the Uni tail who looked comfortable against him right up to the point where he got the number 11 to edge behind

update....... I got on the website after several attempts, but it's like pulling teeth and every time I click on something it takes ages and ages. This won't do once the season starts

finally......... we are 123-2, McKinney 46 and Bedders for a run a ball 39

Bedders falls on 92

McKinney makes it through to his century. Currently on 107 from 123 with 8 fours and 4 sixes. It was tough going for him earlier and took him ages to start scoring, but he stuck in there and made hay when the scoring got easier. Whitfield experienced similar problems early doors, and rather got himself out after getting stuck a little.

Time now for the big number 5 shoot out between Clark and Bushnell. Clark first to get a go

It occurs to me that this whole bat like England thing might be a factor in Clark's reappearance in red ball cricket. We know that Lees, Jones and Bedders can score rapidly, so are they hoping that Clark can bring his white ball scoring rate to the number 5 position?

well they must have made their mind up who is batting 5, because they've declared on 262-3

clearly they can read a weather forecast as well as the rest of us

Nope, called for for the day at 2pm. Amusing tweet from them "Durham have Raine and Drizzell in their squad so not surprising it's soggy.
