new ball due in one over, so that might help us keep some sort of reasonable lead intact

104 overs scheduled for today, so there'll still be 12 overs or so with the new ball unless the light kicks in

part of me hopes we lift these two wickets cheaply and then the light gets really bad so that we have to wait until tomorrow

lead is down to 44 and there's still a wicket to get

looks like the day got the full 104 overs.... clearly the weather on the south coast was a chuff sight better than in gloomy CLS

at least we haven't had to worry about losing a couple in the dusk

Looks like a flat track so if there's any option to declare our second innings it'll be interesting to see how bold we are prepared to be - very would be my guess!
Although I suspect it might not come to that if we come out all guns blazing- it'll just be a question of how long the innings lasts!

Quietly content we are at the very least making this competitive. After his 1000 runs in 8 matches last year, Chet doing it again this year. He's just wayyyyy to good for this level.

Think Durham will still win, but late on day one this game looked heading to a bad place.

I'm not so sure - this ultra aggressive batting approach by Durham could pay dividends but is at least equally likely to result in a collapse!. If they come out trying to smash sixes I can envisage a clatter of wickets. Taking the last wicket isn't always a formality either!

McAndrew asking questions with the new ball, but no luck so far.

Not sure if its going to flatten with older ball, but certainly so far this morning the new ball is doing a lot off the seam. Some uneven bounce too... No cigar for Sussex so far, although some pressure on Jones particularly.

Edit... Hunt gets Jones with a beauty, good length, help from the seam.... McAndrew has asked all the questions, Hunt has bowled like a drain.... but its Hunt who gets him

Ooff.... McKinney nearly out first ball. Not really sure what happened there, it appeared he missed the ball, but he must have got some bat on it as otherwise id imagine it was lbw. Hunt rips one past the edge in final ball.

Looking really tough to bat atm

Terrible stroke from Lees. Ends up swinging with one hand, maybe a nibble back into him but there is a massive gap between foot and bat.... wild. 37/2. McKinney follows him for 4.... 42/3...

Think Ben McKinney is very highly regarded? I know he captained the under-19s (or is still captain). Cant judge on such a small sample, but he hung on the back foot and never moved his feet all innings. Paid the price. Never looked comfortable.

Robinson has a few swings in his first few balls.... the MCCullum way. Edges one straight to Gully, but I cant tell if thats a drop or if it just dies before the fielder. At the other end Bedingham gets done by one that seams a mile. Too good, not getting bat on that

At the moment the Sussex bowlers just need to present the seam, and get the ball in good areas. The pitch is doing the rest.

Big wicket of Bedingham. Lovely away swinger length on the money, just hints away off the pitch. Bedingham drawn into the stroke, and the edge carries to first slip high.

Clark goes straight away. Not sure what the hell that was. Just jabs at one outside off stump, ball moving away... got to leave that.

63/5....

Game blown open that session. After about 25 overs the ball has died just a little, so there is oportunities to extend the lead if Durham can dig in and make the tail wag a little. Early doors there was a good amount of seam in it, and while Sussex made it tough, at least 3 Durham batsman should get the hair drier. Lead of about 100.... wouldnt want to chase that many, been some uneven bounce in the surface with the new ball....

But I think at 100/5 essentially, 60-40 to Sussex at the moment.
