I have no doubt whatsoever that we will have been swayed by some pecuniary sweetners, but if the pitch plays as it did last year it will probably be useful to have an international spin bowler in the side, even if he is relatively inexperienced

Agreed on all counts. Most county batsmen seem to struggle against spin- or maybe I'm assuming they're as bad against it as our lot!- so in theory he could be a very handy addition.

I'm trying to KO. I think back to last year and I have a feeling we kept getting ourselves into decent positions with the ball only to let it all slip by being completely unable to bowl out the tail until the new ball arrived. A spinner might help us to change that.
but yes..... it does seem odd, but then I think Australia have offered us various sweetners as an incentive. I think they are paying Murphy's travel and accomodation costs, for instance.
I await the results with interest. We do need a spinner.... we've always needed a spinner, so I'm not going to complain now that we've signed one. Can he be our Simon Harmer, though and win us matches on his own? It's a big ask

Yes, these signings look handy but there aren't enough of them given the gaps in the squad. I was hopeful that the signing of Robinson- a very good move- would be the first of at least 2 or 3 similar domestic signings.
I'm not confident about this season- we would have needed to strengthen the squad even if Rushy & Dickson hadn't departed for pastures new but we haven't even replaced them.
