Bloody hell, they're off and it isn't snowing. No Yorkshire in the opening round. Busy close season for them.

Raining in Northants.

Durham take the first wicket of the season and elsewhere Stoneman is out for Middx. Fabulous start for the northern county.

This Sussex line up must be, on paper at least, the worst I have ever seen in my lifetime. Off to a great start, but that top-middle order looks so thin, you cant even see it with the most powerful of telescopes. Two 17 year olds playing.... I cant see us winning a match unless Haines plays out of his skin.

Haines starts with a 50... after averaging nearly 50 last year as an opener, I wonder if a good start to the season will put his hat in the ring for a possible test cap. Ali Orr also is looking a decent prospect and got a score.

Finn must be getting on, and he was never very robust.

No Broad for Notts.

Feels traditional on the opening day of the season for Tim Murtagh to bowl a side out for under a hundred... but Middx having a bat.

Sir Steely making a case for an England return?

Somerset flogged into the ground by Hants on day 1

Don't even joke about it! England need a new skipper. I bet Strauss has thought about it....

He certainly should have some involvement in a coaching role to our serial failing openers and/or as a selector given that he's seeing 1st hand potential selections

Would be worthwhile, but not sure what Cook had can be learned. He didn't have a great technique, but had an extraordinary drive and ambition and concentration. Maybe you can learn that. I expect you can pass on ways of working out the bowlers.

!00 partnership for the 8th wicket sneaks Northamptonshire past Gloucestershire. Pitch seems to be easing though so need to keep going.

Nope.... there have been 4 centurions so far on this pitch, with another closing in on one

perhaps they're playing on the car park rather than risk damaging the grass

Close finish.

Otherwise, games in the first round hardly got going. Games just 2/3 over even without rain.
