the ball was changed 5 times today because they kept going soft and out of shape

seemingly this has been a real problem across the counties this year. Whoever signed the balls off will be in a bit of hot water..... well, either that or will get a nice promotion to a job somewhere else, nowhere near cricket balls...... or maybe sent on gardening leave on full pay without it affecting their 6 figure bonus

late wicket of Labu the beast, but too little, too late really. The damage was done in the 3rd innings

Glammy need 126 to win, so will be hoping they won't need to send out their walking wounded

maybe this problem with the balls is the reason Stokesy kept banging it in short last week...... can't take any wickets with this ball... bang it in short repeatedly and get it replaced for one that might take a wicket

Well that waa never in doubt. :lmao
I foolishly decided not to go today even though I thought the last over dismissal of Labu might give us a very slender chance. More heroics from Potts but crucially backed up by the other bowlers. I thought Carse was very poor in the first innings but sounds as if he was on the money today.
All of the other games ending as draws helps - although Notts seem certain to finish top so it might have been handy if they had beaten Middlesex who must be in contention for second place.
I'm happy for SB - he's started making runs and now has a win. In his interview last night he said he thought Labu getting out was a game changer and that he was confident of creating 7 chances today. I guess he was never going to say otherwise but turns out that he was right. At lunch I was still half expecting there would be a agonising 9th or 10th wicket partnership but thankfully it didn't come.

Most interesting part of his interview was the revelation that a replacement batch of balls has been sent to all counties after endless complaints about the quality of the original batch.I suspect that's on Duke's insistence, who must have been concerned about the adverse publicity, rather than ECB.

A new batch is certainly needed. It's almost impossible to keep count of all the ball changes during these games. I suppose the problems with them makes Potts's wicket tally even more impressive.

A win against Glammy was never in doubt. I always believed in them :coat

not only is it a new batch of balls, if I understand correctly it's a new batch of last years balls, while they try to correct whatever is going on with this year's batch

Last years balls might suit Rushy a lot more, because clearly this lot hasn't suited his style of bowling at all

I watched a fair bit of Rushy's bowling in the last 2 matches and he's been bang on, from what I've seen. As much as Potts (and to a lesser extent, Carse) get the plaudits for bowling Glammy out, it was the iron discipline of Rushy (and to a lesser extent, Raine) at the other end that stifled the chase and built up the pressure

A real team effort in the bowling, which is most heartening

And to be fair,Potts specifically highlighted the containing role Rushy and Raine played bowling into the wind whilst he and Raine bowled with the advantage of having it behind them. Spoke very well Potts.

I'm trying to think of a reason why Potts won't get a call up for the first test

top wicket taker in the land by a fair bit, all under the watchful eye of the new England captain. We had no right to win that last match in all honesty and he absolutely had the starring role.

If we assume that both Broad and Anderson start as much as a statement that England are under new management as anything else, who then gets the 3rd seamer slot? Archer is still out, Wood is still out, Mahmood is now out, Fisher is out, Robinson has only just come back into action and didn't pull any tree trunks out of the ground. When Stokes is in the side there is no need to have Woakes. Norwell is on the radar, but he's out injured, Curran S is pretty much operating as a batter for Surrey and when he does bowl he only bowls a handful of overs

That kind of leaves Overton and Potts. Overton has 22 wickets at 16's with 2 5fers, Potts has 35 at 18's with 4 5fers, but do this new England... new captain, new coach, new director, new purpose, want to make Overton who has never really shone on the odd occasion that he breaks into the test side, their statement of intent? They might, who knows, but I think Potts will never get a better chance than at the moment while his stock is so high

There were a few suggestions that Broad and Anderson might not play in the same test bur think that speculation was before the injury list started mounting.

A rare public appearance from him.

Article in The Times seems to suggest the test squad players won't be available for the next round of Championship games. It says there had been a suggestion that an extended squad would be selected but the final decision was to make the players ,who would have been in it, available for their counties. Maybe that was always the case but I thought Stokes said he was playing 3 games for us.
