I was out and about and didn't check after it looked a formality! Would have been one of the worst defeats of all time and we have indeed seen how the bowlers respond when under pressure. Very inexperienced attack so I won't criticise them, just hope they're strong enough to handle being thrown in at the deep end.
At least we stumbled over the line. Dread to think what a loss would have done for morale.

More pertinently why is Borthwick captain when there were far more experienced options available and why has he not improved after nearly two whole season's in the job? I think I know the answer to both questions.

In fairness, he did score 80-odd off 60-odd balls - his captaincy would show immediate improvement though if he just followed one golden rule: DON'T BOWL. Surely, at this stage of his career, it's time to accept that the bowling just isn't good enough to be a front line member of the attack and concentrate on working on his batting (and catching!).

he's not a good captain, though and probably never will be.... any more than Coughlin was/would have been

I'm not sure that captaincy should be something that is dangled on the end of a fishing line even in the hope that it will catch a big fish.... let alone a couple of tiddlers like those two

Definitely not, as it doesn't seem to work for us historically, in terms of a lure to keep players who we want to keep (who then leave anyway), or as a lure to bring players in who aren't captaincy material. I'm in the Aussie camp of name your best team and then pick a captain from it. The problem for us is WHO to pick - especially in this competition, when we are fielding so many kids. In terms of the championship - maybe Bedingham? But that depends on whether he (or any other candidates) has any aptitude for it. Otherwise, you're just swapping one crap captain for another.
