There was something in the paper a week or so ago saying he was close to a return so I took that to mean a couple of weeks as opposed to months.

Am I being a bit premature in being concerned that Rushy has taken only 1 wicket in about 40 pre-season overs?

Possibly but I have the same concern. Hopefully nothing to worry about but if his lean spell continues next weekk it will definitely be a worry. Gibson not playing in this game? Suggests he's not in contention. Personally I'd have played him.

I'm always worried about Rushy ahead of a new season, but he has always come through up to now

one day he won't, of course

Yes, bowling as a whole hasn't been good so far so maybe they're just feeling their way into the season. Batting has been iffy too - are we expecting Lees to be available from the start? No reason why he shouldn't be but who knows what the ECB will do! Stokes presumably will be rested for the opening rounds.

I'd have thought England would want Lees to get as much batting under his belt as possible. Half the season will have been played by the time NZ arrive, so Stokes might make his entrance in May and still have time for 3 matches practice

Confirmation that Stokes will miss the start of the season, looks as if most of the centrally contracted batsmen are available so presumably Lees will be too.

Where did you read that, capt?
According to the Times all players who played in the West Indies will be rested from the 1st round of CC matches ,with the exception of Crawley for some reason. Implies they'll be available thereafter.

Both articles are ambiguous as neither article specifically named Lees.
This is the relevant part of the Times article:-
"Zak Crawley, the Kent batsman, will be the only player to have appeared in the Test series in the West Indies who is available next week,"
Can't see why Crawley would be available and Lees not but it is ECB we're discussing :d'oh:
Hopefully he will be available but the weather forecast suggests a lot of disruption to the match anyway.
