It could be Andrew Tye or Ashton Turner.

Durham tweet suggesting the player also played for Oerth Scorchers in the BBL.

that was a few years ago now, I think

Josh Philippe too

thank goodness these international players were not deemed good enough to break out of the Durham seconds

As highlighted by the case of Philippe, I've never understood how overseas players can turn out once and then disappear again

It's Ashton Turner. I've heard of him but don't know much about him.

used to be an allrounder, but now seems to operate as a batter only. Captained Perth for a while, I think. Decent enough player, but nothing more than that, imo. Sounds exactly like the sort of journeyman overseas player that we usually go for

perhaps I'm being overly harsh, but he isn't a name that would get me excited to watch or that would demonstrate to me a bit of Dribble ambition

There's a story in The Times about Stokes playing with a knee injury in the West Indies and is about to have a scan. Durham are apparently confident he will still play some part in the first batch of games.

does have captaincy experience, of course, and has been successful, so for once we might be captained by someone who does actually have a *modded* clue in T20

he is bowling a bit again, seemingly. In the last 2 seasons of the BBL, he's bowled 12 overs in 33 matches and picked up a couple of wickets @ under 10 (although that is an amazing economy rate around these parts).

The club website has bigged him up as an international all rounder and he has played T20 for Australia 18 times. He averages 12 with the bat, 20 with the ball. He's scored 108 runs and taken 4 wickets in those 18 matches

this is crapinfo's take on the signing https://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content ... 09387.html

poisoned chalice is about right

I think the relevant part of the article might be his failure to get a gig with a franchise for the tournament where 20 deliveries fell out of the ECB's pockets and disappeared down the back of the sofa, but where a good start in the Dribble might provide a late route into it via a wildcard

If he understands the game then he'll be the only Durham player on the pitch who does and might turn out to be a decent enough signing, but he isn't a statement marquee signing that tells the world that Durham mean business this year

Seems a bit of a storm in a teacup with apologies , probably required in today's woke society , for any offence caused to teapots.
