the third and final series was 15 years ago, though.... the first series pre-dated faecesbook and the twaddle. The first 2 series predated Prince Harry and the nazi fancy dress costume. I'm guessing it was long before Alex Hales felt the need to black up. Although admittedly it was after the B&W minstrels had ceased to be mainstream Saturday night prime time TV stalwarts

I found this interesting... is this the nice impartial Mr Graves, famed for his impartial running of the ECB?
While Roger Hutton made a few pertinent points – not least that the Colin Graves trustees effectively prevented him from sacking the club’s director of cricket, head of HR and chief executive – he also demonstrated why he was not the man to force through change at the club. He was, in short, too weak.

Still, he did make the point that if Yorkshire were to be rid of Graves – and his 4.85% interest repayment rate – for once and all, they could refinance their debt to his trusts (now around £15m) with a bank. It should be a priority of the new management.

and this depressingly typical
Make no mistake, either, when considering how much Azeem has suffered during this process. He is exhausted. He has felt excluded. He is grieving both a lost child and a lost career. He received his latest death threat – a guy coming into his fish and chip shop (which he joint owns with Adil Rashid) and threatening to detonate a bomb – as recently as Friday. It’s unfortunate, then, that the DCMS briefly published his home address at the top of his statement following the hearing.

He's not been sacked. Just rested as they don't feel he would be able to represent the BBC on all areas of the game. By that I presume he would be compromised if having to represent the BBC's duty to oppose racism, should that subject be under discussion, which it will be.

Whichever way the BBC go on this would cause dissent from a lot of people.

MPV isn't sounding like someone who won't re-evaluate his past conduct and opinions, so that's a good thing. Much as I now find him annoying, I hope he finds a way back.

Seems he's working for an Aussie broadcaster this winter.

Apparently BT Sport were going to use that Aussie broadcast coverage of the Ashes but are reviewing the decision, they're saying they weren't going to use their own commentators because of Covid travel issues but may change the plans
BBC in a difficult position because the Rafiq story is bound to be discussed during the Ashes so it would be difficult for Vaughan to be part of the discussion given he is also part of the story.

I thought Agnew had a history on that subject in the past. Maybe I misremember.

Agnew's take on the Rafiq allegations was to say "if it was so bad, why did you continue to play for them".....

I think the most hilarious Agnew outburst was when Barney Ronay said on Twitter that he had received a long list of texts from Agnew, after he had committed the crime of simply stating a preference for Talksport's cricket coverage over the BBC. Agnew apparently launched into a long monologue about how the public loved him, how great he was as a professional, how he was a great and much loved guy in the industry.... then ended it by repeatedly calling him a w*nker :lmao :lmao

Worth noting too that a few months after the article in question, Agnew was also calling Liew a racist on twitter, and slagging him off. I think Liew ended up writing an article were he said the whole issue made him uncomfortable, and just wanted Agnew to drop it.

Agnew is apparently legendarily thin-skinned. I read somewhere that he apparently spends a lot of time searching Twitter for people who insult him, goes after them, and then blocks them. Legend has it he has blocked 10,000 people. I guess nothing says "not entitled" like replying in that way to an article about entitlement, and constantly going after young journalists.

Not that Agnew should be sacked for being a racist..... he should be sacked for being the worst journalist currently being mainstream published in the UK.

Some very positive suggestions from Panesar which could offer some closure to a saga which is now becoming tedious.

Never bother myself with Twitter so can't comment on Agnew's form on that but he comes over as far more balanced and knowledgeable in his Cricket reporting than Liew.
