The season has got underway in baltic weather conditions (as expected)

All 18 First Counties are providing some sort of multi camera live streaming coverage, but some counties are going further by getting as close to full TV style coverage as possible.

This season is a change of format to the previous two Divisional structure. It is 3 groups of six, teams are seeded based on the 2019 final positions.

Group 1: Essex, Warwickshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Worcestershire, Durham.
Group 2: Somerset, Hampshire, Surrey, Gloucestershire, Middlesex, Leicestershire.
Group 3: Kent, Yorkshire, Lancashire, Northamptonshire, Glamorgan, Sussex.

Top 2 in each group qualify for County Championship Division 1, 3rd and 4th play in Division 2, 5th and 6th play in Division 3 for a further 5 games. The team who finishes 1st in Division 1 wins the County Championship and play for the Bob Willis Trophy (a 5 day match at Lord's) against 2nd.

There is a minor change to the points system, 8pts are awarded for a draw. Also the visiting team no longer has a choice to bowl prior to the toss.

Hampshire making the best start today. 223-3 with Vince in full flow and dealing almost exclusively in boundaries

centuries for Sussex opener Tom Haines and Middlesex opener Sam Robson

Wondering who got there first.

Good effort from the centurions given the ball is mostly on top across the country.

For the bowlers, Norwell (remember him?) has his first 5fer of the season for Warks, and Josh Shaw and Ryan Higgins are tearing Man City PSG Surrey to pieces

from crapinfo....

Strays onto the pads, and Robson clips this away through midwicket... it won't quite reach the boundary, but they'll comfortably get back for three and that's the first Championship hundred of the 2021 season! Dropped twice in the slips, Robson has been imperious off the pads throughout, scoring heavily through midwicket and fine leg. Went past 10,000 first-class runs this morning, and makes his 24th ton in the afternoon

44th over off 139 balls, which is pretty darn quick

Haines ton came up in the 54th over off 177 deliveries

good effort given that wickets are falling far too regularly at the other end

Robson has 150

Haines closing in on his... needs 5

Vince needs 10 for his. He and Alsop are romping away against hapless Leicester

132 -7 to 259-8 reminds me of another team who have a habit of letting sides off the hook!

Yorkshire bowling beginning to be of a little concern? It looks very strong and the strong batting resistance both Universities put up just appeared an aberration. But now Glamorgan's tail puts on nearly 200 and counting.
