now Trevaskis picks up a wicket. only 9 needed, though. Imagine if we hadn't conceded 40 odd runs for the 10th wicket, or gifted them 20 or 25 runs bowling Borthwick for 5 expensive overs, or ran out the man looking most likely to make a score? 100 plus target might have been more challenging than usual.

Imagine if I find out that van Buuren was dropped early in his match winning knock..... and imagine if he'd been dropped by Borthwick? Wouldn't have been the first time this season

I wonder why Gloucs promoted their number 10 to 4?

there you go.... all over.... underwhelming end to a promising season

I wonder if we'll learn the lesson for next year? I doubt it.... the spinner problem has been ignored for years

Looks like a good day for me to have been busy elsewhere!
A pity the season has ended on that note but all too predictable with a classy spinner and a tough pitch. We still had opportunities to get back into it but as soon as that partnership at the end increased the lead I thought the writing was on the wall.
All in all though it has been a much better season than I expected- and it could easily have been even better. One or two areas of concern but I think we are looking like a competitive outfit at the very least.

I agree - definitely a better season than I expected too. I think the addition of a good batsman and a good spinner would have us pretty much back as a top side. Obviously I don't know where these mythical players would come from, but with an overseas slot open, maybe Axar Patel could solve the spin problem?

I think it would have to be overseas, so few decent English spinners around. Initially I thought another overseas batsman would be the preferred option but there's probably more chance of recruiting a batsman from another county.
Amazing that the batting has been generally very strong when Borthwick and Bancroft didn't churn out the runs.

a shame that Bancroft found a way to bring his mediocre Aussie domestic form with him when he finally arrived. We might very well have been better off if he hadn't bothered coming over.

I think we need to know what format CC takes before deciding on our overseas. Muted below of playing some of CC during Hundred with weakened teams!-it just gets dafter and dafter. Certainly need to draft in a quality spinner for final weeks of championship.

Playing CC during the Hundred is such a spectacularly bad idea - so it probably will happen! I liked how Harrison was saying playet burnouts are partly down to too much international and domestic cricket...after being a cheerleader for a new competition that no one but the ECB wanted!

the telegraph doesn't like me reading any of their stuff

I can only imagine that they are daft enough to think that I might actually give a newspaper some money. I haven't bought a newspaper in about 30 years and I'm not going to start now, so I'd rather be kept in the dark. I tend to believe that if something is in the papers it's either not true or it's been twisted into something unrecognisable from the truth

Beg to differ D/F. Both Ammon and Wigmore are normally bang on the money with their cricket info. Today's article gives a pretty true account of the current state of play imo.

I don't read newspapers either but keep up to date cricketwise from digital news..

There wasn't a regionalised conference system in place this year. Nor does the article explain how 10 top teams would be selected under this system.

Yes, seems nonsensical. I'd have thought the obvious thing to do for next season would be to return to two divisions. The suggestion that covid could be a factor seems a cop-out, surely no realistic chance that it would have an impact next year.

Marcus Harris signed a 2yr contract as Gloucestershire overseas player whilst we remain with a squad of 15 senior players with no mention of strengthening yet they send us letters requesting membership renewals. No way despite 30 years continued membership.
