Pretty grim weather for the final.

Big hundred for Cook. He must really want to play CC if he's willing to go through all the rigmarole of this season.

Great stat on the stream: 7 of the 11 Essex players were all born in the same hospital. Makes their achievements even more special

Great stat!

Declarations keeping the game alive. Should be a finish, weather permitting.

Cold, though.

Shocking.BLM ammunition -clear lack of diversity in this team.

Black people can be born in Essex hospitals

pleased that Somerset lost out again, but an unsatisfactory final, I think. Essex, having effectively won by virtue of first innings scores, were happy just to hang on and grit it out. Just as well there were no fans there to watch what was presumably a turgid end to a showpiece final. A final should be won, not just not lost

hey ho.... scope for improvement next year

The 120 overs limit probably contributed to that, in truth, so there is scope there too

I think the play off that gives the draw to one of the teams before the game is flawed. It's very likely one of the sides will just seek to kill the game.

???
Neither team could afford to take the draw before the game-1st innings lead was the decider.

Ironically this stat rather destroys the point you are making. By process of elimination, Cook is from Gloucestershire, Harmer and Ryan TD are both saffers and Westley is from Cambridge; so if the others were all born in Whipps Cross like Graham Gooch, then far from being a brilliant display of Essex born talent, the reality would be Essex dont have a single player in their squad born in the county.

Because Whipps Cross is not in Essex, but the Greater London Borough of Waltham Forest.
